Man gets 18 months for beating puppy to death
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 09:36 AM by jimbot
(he deserved more)
SKOWHEGAN -- A 26-year-old Fairfield man was sentenced to 18 months behind bars Tuesday for beating a 4-month-old wolf-hybrid puppy to death with his fists.

"People who would abuse or torture innocent animals are people who would do the same (to humans) under the right circumstances," Fowle said.

It was the second time in less than a week that a prison sentence was handed down for the relatively rare felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty in Fowle's jurisdiction.

On edit...here is the link
sorry...brain not working well today.

7. completely with ya on that one
kids that are abusive to animals (not that this guy is exactly a kid), have a greater tendancy to later be psycopaths.

48. But this is scarily like "pre-crime"
I understand the argument that people who abuse small animals are likely to become abusive to people -- but they have not done so yet. It reminds me of that movie, Minority Report. You can't punish someone beyond the ordinary punishment for animal cruelty, because the animal cruelty could become human abuse.

I love animals and I think the guy is a sick bastard, but frankly we kill and abuse animals routinely in farms, in shelters and on the streets, and I don't think it's fair to single this guy out for a prison sentence because he might some day kill someone. We need to change the laws concerning animal cruelty so that not just this guy buy everyone in a slaughterhouse or a confinement pig raising facility faces the same penalties.

about serial killers usually abusing animals. I've always wondered what that said about people that kill defenseless animals and call it "sport."

26. Operation Acoustic Kitty
Victor Marchetti, a former CIA officer, told The Telegraph that Project Acoustic Kitty was a gruesome creation. He said: "They slit the cat open, put batteries in him, wired him up. The tail was used as an antenna. They made a monstrosity. They tested him and tested him. They found he would walk off the job when he got hungry, so they put another wire in to override that."

Mr Marchetti said that the first live trial was an expensive disaster. The technology is thought to have cost more than £10 million. He said: "They took it out to a park and put him out of the van, and a taxi comes and runs him over. There they were, sitting in the van with all those dials, and the cat was dead."

20. Glad to see they caught him
We adopted an abused and abandoned pup, but unfortunately had no idea who had hurt him. Anyone who can hurt an innocent animal is subhuman to me. It is great to see this "man" being sent to jail, as all too often these criminals are never caught.

it's bad enough that we hit, kill and abuse each other, but when we do it to young, helpless animals.....

This guy should have gotten more time and be barred from ever owning another animal of any kind.

38. It's great that we are finally
taking animal cruelty seriously in our society. My neighbor poisined 2 of my dogs 5 yrs ago with anti freeze and the police made no effort to pursue this. These animal abusing bastards should be buried under the jail. I feel confident that this hideous person will get what he has coming to him in jail!!!!! If we can't protect our most helpless members of society what good are we?

44. This....
This sick f*ck needs to come to Parchman down in Mississippi -- he won't last 10 minutes.

They (the prisoners heree) breed shepards and train them to be seeing eye dogs. I've heard stories about how gentle they are with the dogs. I don't think they'd be that gentle with him.

46. why the (#%&* did the judge suspend 3-1/2 years of his sentence?
"Superior Court Chief Justice Nancy Mills sentenced Mayhew to five years in prison with all but 18 months suspended. Mayhew will be on probation for four years after he is released."

And she could have just left it at the 5 years, that would have been a favor to society.

49. This is the kind of person who
WANTS a wolf. Breeding wolf/dog hybrids is a disservice to both dogs AND wolves. Wolves were not meant to be "pets." This guy probably thought it would be "macho" to have a wolf and probably got pissed when the poor thing peed on his carpet.

I tend to put them in a different category, perhaps arbitrarily but nonetheless. I presume that they are not tortured beforehand. I have no problem with devouring meat in itself, if the animal is killed humanely and it is not merely done in sport.
