U.S. OKs Evidence Gained Through Torture
U.S. OKs Evidence Gained Through Torture

By MICHAEL J. SNIFFEN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Evidence gained by torture can be used by the U.S. military in deciding whether to imprison a foreigner indefinitely at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as an enemy combatant, the government says.

Statements produced under torture have been inadmissible in U.S. courts for about 70 years. But the U.S. military panels reviewing the detention of 550 foreigners as enemy combatants at the U.S. naval base in Cuba are allowed to use such evidence, Principal Deputy Associate Attorney General Brian Boyle acknowledged at a U.S. District Court hearing Thursday.

Some of the prisoners have filed lawsuits challenging their detention without charges for up to three years so far. At the hearing, Boyle urged District Judge Richard J. Leon to throw their cases out.

Attorneys for the prisoners argued that some were held solely on evidence gained by torture, which they said violated fundamental fairness and U.S. due process standards. But Boyle argued in a similar hearing Wednesday that the detainees "have no constitutional rights enforceable in this court."

2. Boy, do I need some reminding
I've totally forgotten what the moral underpinnings are that make the United States superior to every other nation on earth, and why we're entitled to torture folks into confessions. What exactly is it about George W. Bush that makes his administration so moral? Is it the pious words he mouths while engaging in the most heinous crimes against humanity? Our country seems hypersensitive to the horrible nature of the September 11 attacks and curiously indifferent to our own atrocities.

6. Well, maybe it's not curious to you and me
But the indifference sure seems to stump the Great Minds of the National Punditry, both in print and on air. So much so that they don't even mention it in their columns or on their hours of programming every week.

3. It's amazing how these
idiots and supposed moralists are erasing everything good that America was built on.

It's frightening and embarassing at the same time!

7. Then let's get to the bottom of 9/11. Strap Bush to a chair...
and torture him to get the truth. The 9/11 Commission Report is a fabrication, given that the committee gave Bush lying privileges.

I figure once bound, Bush could be tortured by waving an open bottle of Thunderbird or Ripple under his nose. He'd crack in no time!!!
