Vice president's visit generates $150,000 for Kentucky candidate
Associated Press

CINCINNATI - Vice President Dick Cheney's visit Monday raised $150,000 for Kentucky gubernatorial candidate Ernie Fletcher, campaign spokesman Wes Irvin said.

Fletcher, a Republican congressman running against Democratic state Attorney General Ben Chandler, also hopes President Bush will visit Kentucky before the November election, Irvin said. Fletcher campaign officials are hoping that a Bush visit would take place sometime in October when Congress is out of session.

"He's definitely committed to come," Irvin said of the president.

Irvin said the Fletcher campaign had tried to find a location in northern Kentucky for Cheney's visit Monday but couldn't because of a tight schedule. Invitations for the $500-per-person event went out three weeks ago, Irvin said.

Irvin declined to predict how much of Monday's take was from Kentucky contributors. (snip/...)

2. That's It?
What's that, about ten 30-second TV spots? With the millions (billions?) in tax cuts to Kentucky's wealthiest, all they (300 of them) could spare was a lousy $500 per person?

Granted, Cheney is about as exciting as watching Kentucky bluegrass grow -- in slow motion. Still, I would have expected Kentucky's richest would give back at least one percent. Maybe they're cutting back in anticipation of the Iraq tax bill?

3. Really, only 150K, Cheney must
be losing his touch with his most fervent supporters, the nearly dead.
