BAQUBA, Iraq (Reuters) - Robbers in Iraq (news - web sites) killed three people, wounded six and made off with half a million dollars in cash on Tuesday after attacking a group of workers after they had picked up their firm's payroll money from a bank.

Survivors said the gunmen trailed the employees of state-run Diyala Company for Electrical Industries from a Baquba bank in three cars, cut them off in the street and opened fire.


They grabbed several sacks packed with 700 million dinars and made their getaway.


Armed robberies and kidnappings for ransom have become increasingly common in Iraq in the past year as embattled police and Iraqi security services struggle to maintain law and order.
