Car Bomb Targets Baghdad Police, Several Casualties

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A car bomb exploded as a convoy of five police cars drove past in Baghdad on Friday and there were several casualties, police said.


Thick smoke rose from the site of the blast and ambulance sirens wailed.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide car bomber rammed into a police patrol in Baghdad on Friday, killing one policeman, police and hospital officials said.



The attack in the eastern Zayouna neighborhood injured at least four others, including two policemen, said officials at Kindi Hospital.


Iraqi security forces are frequent targets of insurgents, who have killed hundreds of police and soldiers in the past year in Iraq (news - web sites).

2. and like clockwork: Several Explosions Hit Central Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Several loud explosions hit central Baghdad Friday, as smoke rose above the fortified Green Zone, where the headquarters of the Iraq (news - web sites) and U.S. leadership is based.


The blasts occurred about 4:30 p.m. in the capital, sending up smoke on the western bank of the Tigris River.


There was no immediate explanation for the explosions.
