PARTY IN POWER SHOULD TAKE BLAME FOR OIL PRICES

On July 19, letter writer ****** Thompson blamed the oil crisis on the Democrats. He said Democrats stopped oil exploration in Alaska. Yes, Democrats and some Republicans prevented the destruction of Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge. The oil would not have helped our situation because it was already promised to Asian countries.

He said Democrats had refused to let new refineries be built. If he had listened to a news source other than Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, Thompson would have learned that the U.S. oil companies closed refineries and declared a moratorium on building more to drive up the price of oil.

He said Democrats won't allow drilling in the Gulf area. The last time I checked, there are dozens of oil platforms in the Gulf.

The Republicans have had control of Congress since 1994 and the White House since 2001. If they wanted to do something about high gasoline prices, it seems they would have done something by now.

day they did. The oil company profit figures were being released. So glad they saw fit to publish my letter on such a timely manner. I have waited months for one of my letters to be published.

Often when I write letters to papers, they give me a headline that's just ridiculous.

Anyway, this is a great argument: "The Republicans have had control of Congress since 1994 and the White House since 2001. If they wanted to do something about ..., it seems they would have done something by now."

And you can insert pretty much any issue you want.

31. I've been writing them letters for 25 years. They know me well

enough they no longer call for confirmation.

They used to have a byline writer. He was a solid doper and would put a lot of inside jokes in his bylines. One of my favorites was under an image of the skyline engulfed in fog. The byline said "Onward into the fog." That was the catch phrase for the comic character Oat Willie.
