Hey Elections Forum--Hackett has election stolen then betrayed by Party
Hey ERD, Elections, whatever we're called lately;) (call us anything, just call us!)

The Hackett election was a real time exercise of research applied to a controversial election.

Remember that, you worked very hard. Hackett received information from DU electronically and in person.

Look at these threads. They're great.

Just got this email from Hackett, I hope this means he is back... (Rosebud)

question - do you think the Hackett election was stolen? (garybeck)

"Scoop" Independent Media article (autorank)

And there were any more.

There were people from all over sending Hackett information, making suggestions, delivering things to him...a huge effort was made by DUers to help him understand the nastiness that is Ohio politics before, during and after the election.

Now, look what it gets you when you're one of the REALLY HOT candidates who can deliver the message we all love and the country needs: you get stabbed in the back (calls made by Senate leaders to your funding sources saying, don't give...is this what they mean by "a grateful nation."

HACKETT FORCED OUT
http://www.ohiohonestelections.org/
<snip>

“For me, this is a second betrayal,” Mr. Hackett said. “First, my government misused and mismanaged the military in Iraq, and now my own party is afraid to support candidates like me.” Mr. Hackett was the first Iraq war veteran to seek national office, and the decision to steer him away from the Senate race has surprised those who see him as a symbol for Democrats who oppose the war but want to appear strong on national security.”

“Alienating Hackett is not just a bad idea for the party, but it also sends a chill through the rest of the 56 or so veterans that we’ve worked to run for Congress,” said Mike Lyon, executive director for the Band of Brothers, a group dedicated to electing Democratic veterans to national office. “Now is a time for Democrats to be courting, not blocking, veterans who want to run.”

“It boils down to who we think can pull the most votes in November against DeWine,” said Chris Redfern, chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party. “And in Ohio, Brown’s name is golden. It’s just that simple.” Mr. Fern added that Mr. Brown’s fund-raising abilities made him the better Senate candidate. By the end of last year, Mr. Brown had already amassed $2.37 million, 10 times what Mr. Hackett had raised.”

“Mr. Hackett said he was unwilling to run for the Congressional seat because he had given his word to three Democratic candidates that he would not enter that race. “The party keeps saying for me not to worry about those promises because in politics they are broken all the time,” said Mr. Hackett, who plans to return to his practice as a lawyer in the Cincinnati area. “I don’t work that way. My word is my bond.”

===============================================

Paul made them nervous...bold, strong, tells THE truth, AND THE PEOPLE LOVED HIM.

He won three rural counties in SW Ohio, bordering Kentucky by 60%-40%.

Those were carried by Republicans for decades by 70%

This guy was the real dea. Hope he hooks up with Fitrakis!;)

3. So, could he run as an independent?
Does he have that kind of support? The kind that can keep the Repuke from winning, despite splitting some votes? It seems as though he does.

I'd toss some cash that way.

4. I'm thinking Fitrakis (Gov), Hackett (Sen) The Democracy Party
Sending a message on this one is as important as sending a message to LIEberman.

I'm tired of this crap. The leaders of our party have lost EVERY major battle, EVERY ONE OF THEM.

They should make their preferred decision and then do the opposite, which would give us a chance to succeed.

Hackett gave to his country in the military and in a crooked election.

Now, here is his reward, stabbed in the back by his own party.

:nuke: 'em high. This is PATHETIC.

:hi:

9. Yes, SOMETHING! I'm so fed up with the Democratic party,
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 11:15 AM by Kurovski
it literally turns my stomach.

And Republicans.

If republicans were as wary and questioning of their own party as I am of my own, Cheney and Bush would be long gone.

Edit: "...of my own..."

11. I'm trying to piece this together. Hackett was told by Brown
that the coast was clear, so Paul declares.

He then promises not to run in the 2nd district.

Then, the party throws him off the bus.

Is that right?

14. Kinda. Brown told Hackett he was not running for Senate seat. Hackett
enters race. Support given by Shumer and others. Political DINOS change mind (because Hackett can win). They urge Brown into race. ODP attempts to sabotage campaign (there were rumors from reliable sources that the ODP was going to back Brown prior to primaries) then...the party threw him off the bus.

Us voters can't be trusted in choosing our candidates, we need hacks to do it for us.

12. Called a staffer to see if he'd run as an independent, she didn't think so
he's a little upset with politics right now. This will hurt the Ohio Dem party candidates. They should be pissed at their leadership.

Scanning can be dangerous.
Do so only with caution.
Never scan the DLC. This

:-) Geez, autorank, if it's red, something's terribly wrong.

BTW, as far as sluts go, Jeff is a poisonous mushroom compared to the delicious truffle that is myself.

The Senator should be so fortunate. *sniff!*

I had led you astray. It is I who stand shame-faced.

Kinda. ;-)

Edit: of course it could also have been interpreted as a reference to Biden's conflicted allegiance, a desire on his part to be cleansed of his "red-state"/ Republican taint.

21. Many Ohio so-called "Dems" are rethugs. According to Fitrakis,
the Chair of the Ohio Democratic Party in 2004, Denny White, had been a life-long republican.
Is Redfern's history similar?

The DINOs need to be culled and Hackett needs to understand who he is really dealing with.

25. Well my circle of friends in Ohio intend to write in Hackett. Blackwell
controls the vote and since the Dems did nothing to correct the election corruption, it doesn't matter anyways, but I have two problems voting for Brown.

1. Brown told Hackett he wasn't entering the race , then does. Hmmh doesn't sound like the type of integrity I value.

2. I believe it is the voters who should decide what Dem they wish to chose, not political hacks regardless of affiliation. I want to sent a message to the party that every viable Dem candidate should get the chance to make their case to the Dem base and then the Dem base should decide.

Flame away, but my vote is the only clout I have and I intend to use it.
