6. The fact that it's legal for them to eavesdrop without a warrant,

as long as they get a warrant 72 hours later, complicates the matter of saying it's the phone companies' fault.

They can't say we won't eavesdrop for the NSA without a warrant.

I understand the pressure that is brought to bear, but I am curious as to the names of these companies and of course I'd like to know what resistance, if any, they offered as bush was twisting their arm.

I bet Verizon capitulated without a word of dissent.

edit: You bring up another good point: How many of those wiretaps were done without a follow-up warrant within the next 72 hours?
