WAKE the F*CK UP: **Stop Election Fraud** Advice--Rep. John Conyers,D,M I
WAKE the F*CK UP: **Stop Election Fraud** Advice from Rep. John Conyers, D, MI

John Conyers, D, MI is a legendary figure in the Democratic Party. He served on the Judiciary Committee since 1964 (and was on that committee during the Nixon impeachment hearings); he is a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus; has sponsored critical legislation; recently called for * to explain the pre-war Bush-Blair memo; and investigated election fraud in Ohio right after the election.

Why is this important: because fraud occurred in Ohio; that fraud is a paradigm for what we can expect in the 2006/2008 elections. If we cant get fair elections, including a fair vote count, we will never regain control of congress and the White House. As a party, we are doing very little.

Here is a summary of What Went Wrong In Ohio by Rep. John Conyers. It is vital that we realize the scope of theft in just that state and GET ANGRY AND MOTIVATED. . The excerpts are followed by some excellent links showing how Bush stole Ohio and the national election. The very best election fraud work around takes place right here on DU in the Elections Forum.

Excerpts:

We have found numerous serious election irregularities in the Ohio presidential electionCumulatively, these irregularities, which affected hundreds of thousands of votersraise grave doubts about whiter it can e said that the Ohio electorswere chosen in a manner conforming to Ohio law, let alone Federal requirements and constitutional standards.

PRE ELECTOIN

I the following actions by Mr. Blackwell (Ohio Republican Secretary of State), the Republican Party, and elections officials disenfranchised HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Ohio citizens, predominantly Minority and Democratic voters.

A. misallocation of voting machines led to unprecedented long lines that disenfranchised scores, if not hundreds of thousands, of predominantly Minority and Democratic Voters.

B. Mr. Blackwells decision to restrict provisional ballots resulted in the disenfranchisement of tens, if not hundreds of thousands of voters, predominantly Minority and Democratic voters.

C. Mr. Blackwells widely reviled decision to reject voter registration applicationsmay have resulted in thousands of new voters not being registered in timer for the 2004 election.

D. caging: tactics (voter intimidation through threatening letters, etc.) targeted 35,000 predominantly minority voters for intimidation, had a negative impact on voter turnout.

E. The Ohio Republican Partys decision to utilize thousands of partisan challengers contradicted concentrated in minority and Democratic areas probably disenfranchised tens of thousands of legal voters

F. Mr. Blackwells decision to prevent voters who requested absentee ballots, but did not receive them on a timely basis, from being able to receive provisional ballotsprobably disenfranchised thousands, if not tens of thousands of voters, particularly seniors.

II. On Election Day

A. widespread instances of intimidation and misinformation in violation of the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act of 1968, the Equal Protection Due Process and Ohio right to vote.

B. improper purging and other registration errors by election officials that probably disenfranchised tens of thousands of voters statewide.

C. There were 93,000 spoiled ballots where no vote was cast for president, the vast majority of which (were not inspected at the time of his report).

D. numerous significant unexplained irregularities.

1. Mahonig countyat least twenty-five electronic machines transferred an unknown number of Kerry votes to the Bush column;
2. Warren County locked out public observers from vote counting citing a FBI warning about terrorist threat(no FBI threat issues);
3. Perry County...signifiantly more votes than voters in some precincts
4. Butler County, down ballotDemocratic Supreme Court candidate (out polls) Kerry;

III. post election periodnumerous irregularities in tallying provisional ballots and conducting and completing the recount that disenfranchised thousands of voters and called the entire recount procedure into question:

A. failure to articulate clear and consistent standards for counting of provisional ballots.

Bfailure to issue specific standards for the recount contributed to a lack of uniformity in violating of both the Due Process clause and the Equal Protection clauseincluding:

1. Counties that did not randomly select precinct samples;
2. Counties which did not conduct a full hand count after the 3% hand and machine count did not match;
3. Counties which allowed irregular marking of ballots and failed to secure and store allots and machinery; and
4. Counties which prevented witnesses for candidates from observing various aspects of the recount.

C. The voting computer company Triad has essentially admitted that it engaged in a course of behavior during the recount in numerous counties to provide cheat sheets to those counting the ballot. how many votes they should find for each candidate, and how many over and under-votes they should calculate to match the machine count. In that way, they could avoid doing a full county-wide recount mandated by law.

WHY KERRY WON OHIO A STATISTICAL PROOF

WHY KERRY WON THE 2004 ELECTIONA STATISTICAL PROOF

Big Time Republican Fund Raiser Involved in Current Scandal Had Intervened for Republican Secretary of State to Fight Election Fraud Discovery EffortsWTF?!!!

1. Are the Dems ignoring this issue because of who is pushing it?
It wouldn't be the first time the country ignored African-American sage advice: Barbara Lee, Maxine Waters, Cynthia McKinney, and now Jon Conyers

I did write to the DNC and say I saw no point in donating one more cent to them until they show they are committed to rooting out election fraud and demonstrate a reasonable plan to confront and stop it. I said the committee they appointed headed by Donna Brazille does not inspire confidence.

13. In a way.
The Democrats are glad to get 90+ percent of African-American votes, but when it came to defending the right of EVERYbody to vote in 2004, especially the rights of black Americans, the Dems sat on their duffs.

The Congressional Black Caucus defended EVERYone's right to vote. And have the vote count.

Apparently the rest of the Dems are so bought or so cowed that they won't even put up a decent fight to have sort of fair elections. I'm not even saying perfect elections -- just sort of fair. But come on, you had precincts in Ohio coming up with 25 million negative votes! (Yeah, the election officials figured out that was wrong. But, other results stood, that were mathematically impossible. In Ohio. In New Mexico. Elsewhere. Stuff like, 300 people registered in a precinct, but 1800 "voting.")

While citizens around the country were observing, counting, calculating, writing letters, etc. etc., in the aftermath of November 2nd 2004, guess what the goddamned DNC office was doing? One of my Dem friends called them repeatedly. One time he got a live person a few minutes after 5 pm Washington DC time. He was trying to reach their desk handling complaints of election fraud. The switchboard said, "Well, it's after 5. They've all gone home."

18. Zan, I agree with every word you said. How about that. That's why
I took my self down town to the DC Rally and March to protest the certification of the Election in January. I was outraged and also furious that the Democrats were not standing up for black Americans once again. I truly believed that Boxer had to stand up and protest or we'd be through as a Party because our real base, black Americans, would just throw up when they say (D) after a candidates name.

It was down to the wire. Boxer was the only challenge and only 12 Senators debated with her. She was the only negative vote.

A disgraceful day but the challenge by Boxer pushed by the CBC saved us from total oblivion.

Here are some pics from the Rally & March. It was small but very noisy and intense.

22. So all those groups out there gathering the proof of vote fraud...
Edited on Tue May-24-05 11:10 PM by Tigress DEM
counted for nothing? When I first got to DU it was through looking up vote fraud on google and getting to Bev Harris' site and I know those people and our people ain't talking no more, but in order to prove vote fraud you have to catch them.

Ken Blackwell sat on the evidence until the point was moot. People were out there standing up and saying this isn't right and have kept up with it, but it takes time.

I listed 59 House Reps and 7 Senators who are onboard with proposed legislation we could prod.

And here are the members of the Committee on Rules and Administration
We can ask them about what is going on with S 450

Democrats:

Ranking Member, Chris Dodd, CT
Robert C. Byrd
Daniel K. Inouye
Dianne Feinstein
Charles E. Schumer
Mark Dayton
Richard J. Durbin
E. Benjamin Nelson

Republicans:

Chairman, Trent Lott, MS
Ted Stevens
Mitch McConnell
Thad Cochran
Rick Santorum
Kay Bailey Hutchison
Bill Frist
C. Saxby Chambliss
Robert Bennett
Chuck Hagel

17. As someone who has SHOUTED John Conyers for Prez a lot...
I believe he is doing a great job, but he isn't alone out there in working to stop vote fraud. He is an awesome person and I think if there wasn't a life and death fight over this damm Nuclear Option, more DEMS would be right on this. I think every DEM who knows how much work Conyers has done on this issue respect him, but we can't get any issue to the floor while the rethugs are playing their games.

Hilary Clinton, Stephanie Tubbs Jones & Barbara Boxer also stand with Jon on this issue.

The Count Every Vote Act of 2005 S. 450 Hilary introduced to the Senate has 6 co-sponsors and seems to have evolved to include a lot of what we on DU have said is needed for real vote reform.

It's hung up in the Committee on Rules and Administration.

Statement of Senator Clinton on the Count Every Vote Act of 2005
February 17, 2005

First, the Count Every Vote Act mandates that each and every voter be able to verify their vote through a voter verifiable paper record. It also requires that the paper record be the official record for purposes of recounting. At least one machine per precinct must provide for paper, audio, and pictorial verification and must be accessible to language minorities who cannot read and the disabled. The Act requires a mandatory recount of voter verified paper records in 2% of all polling places or precincts in each state if there is a challenge. To help states meet these requirements, the Act authorizes $500 million.

Secondly, we want improved security measures for electronic voting machines and the legislation contains significant security requirements for voting equipment and voting equipment manufactures. It also bans the use of undisclosed software and wireless communications devices in voting systems

Third, we believe there should be a holiday for voting. To facilitate the ability of many voters to cast their vote and to symbolize the importance and power of the right to vote, this act creates a public federal holiday on Election Day, the first Tuesday in November.

Next, to encourage people to vote we want to allow them to vote at times convenient for them and to avoid long lines on election day, so we require early voting in all states. We also want to be sure that provisional ballots are counted statewide for federal elections. This allows ballots that are cast in the wrong precinct, or even the wrong county, by a registered valid voter to be counted for all eligible races, so long as that voter is registered in the state.

.......

25. Maybe we need to start working on Plan B. If the party continues to be in
denial (or whatever the hell keeps them from dealing with this), we're going to have to take it on ourselves. I'm not saying I'll give up trying to convince them, but I'm not going to count on it.

Some ideas that come to mind:

Massive grassroots campaign to get every voter to request a paper ballot (I'm assuming there must be a provision for this under HAVA, but that may be naive).

Audit the vote ourselves (Kathy Dopp, USCountsVotes)

Hanging out in polling places watching for funny business. Maybe even accidentally tripping over ethernet cables and pulling them out of the wall if the machines are networked.

Enlisting the aid of white hat hackers to gather evidence of fraud.

Screen shots and videos all day long on election day.

Whatever it takes.

I was ignorant of all the warnings about potential fraud before last November. Had I known then what I know now, I would have been working on this issue. I feel like all the time I spent volunteering, and money donated, was wasted. It won't happen again.

In the future, when historians discuss the attempted neocon take-over of American Democracy at the beginning of the 21st century, Rep Conyers will be remembered as the brave American hero who kept standing up to them, even before it became "popular" to do so.

A true HERO for any time!

39. Shanikka's rant
"Y'all just don't get it" on Daily Kos, last December, is still worth reading, for those who didn't read it then:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/12/15/9734/4841

Here's a snip:

I've been a lifelong Democrat. My mother was in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. However, my mama also didn't raise no fools. I'm African-American first and no matter how much other folks tell me that they care about my people's rights, the proof is in the pudding. The rabid insulting those who wish to continue to fight for our rights; the willingness to obfuscate or ignore this issue or allow it to sink from public view; the readiness with which folks would rather call others crazy (i.e. tin hat brigade) than admit that African-American voters in Ohio deserve the party they have been steadfastly loyal to for 40 years to fight for them NO MATTER WHAT; the convenient knee-jerk promise for "reform" for "next time" while allowing what happened in Ohio THIS TIME to pass without a fight REGARDLESS OF WHETHER KERRY WON OR LOST (I honestly don't give a damn) should tell any rational person what the truth really is. It definitely should tell any Black person deluded enough to believe that the Democratic party and its majority membership really gives a damn about us what the truth really is.

The real shame about this entire situation is that the truth about the Democratic Party and what it is really prepared to do for Black folk (precious little) has hurt and disappointed and will continue to hurt and disappoint so many African-Americans who genuinely wanted to believe they had a real ally in their unique American struggle in the Democratic Party. But, if I am honest, I admit that it is largely our own fault. After all, in hindsight we were told 40 years ago by one of our own that Democrats and Republicans were precisely the same animal, when it came to a willingness to fight for African-Americans' interests. The one thing that has become clear post-2004 is the truth of that statement. And that truth will, I predict, cost the Democratic party the most loyal base it has had since the late 1960's.

It's long, it's angry, and it's brilliant.

42. Wasn't even on their survey!
I just filled out the paper survey the Democrats sent out. On it, Election reform wasn't even an option. I carefully drew a new check off square and wrote it in as the first choice for every issue ( I put "Paper Ballots" for lack of room). I then wrote in the comment section that they all need to learn about computer code and that there are some congress people that can't even do email. They KNOW this stuff an they are going to let it happen again. I am really getting suspicious over this collective blank stare...

43. What happened in Ohio was criminal
Those who are responsible for the crimes and/or for the cover-ups must be brought to justice.

If anyone wonders why the Republicans can talk confidently about being the "permanent majority" party, just look at the blatant fraud and suppression that took place in the 2004 Ohio election. They know that the fix is in. If these crimes aren't stopped now, it will just get harder and harder to keep out fraud and suppression in the future.

And if anyone wonders why the Republicans don't need to keep the filibuster procedures around for that rainy day down the road when Republicans are a minority party, wonder no longer.

Republicans are now so utterly confident in their ownership of the voting booth that they KNOW that rainy day will never come.

46. I've seen enough, why will Harry Reid and John Kerry not take the charge?
It's time to email the entire caucaus and push them to hold full wide public hearings on this MATTER!!!!

We are set to lose everything if the feet aren't pressed into the pavement!!

senator@kennedy.senate.gov
john_kerry@kerry.senate.gov
senator@biden.senate.gov

I have felt for some time that we are lacking a real leader in the Senate, this can not be allowed to continue or else congress may lose almost all of its democratic seats in the 2006 elections and I don't like to think it. I know what's at stake for all sides.

My example letter below

Dear Senator Kerry,

Please charge forth with John Conyers and the rest of the caucaus to have true election reform. We are becoming so complacent and resigned that our power to change things in not just our government, but our lives, is being destroyed!

Sir, I listened to your speech on the floor about Freedom and Liberty. I listened to the speech knowing that I am a republican at the core who follows democratic values. I have seen the republican leadership become a stymied, corrupt radical extremist group and I no longer believe in these ideals and I will not stand for them!

We need full equal protection and voting rights. Sir, you say you stand for true reform and transparency of government. I have never had much faith in politics or changing things until I really listened to your rousing speech. But Senator, if you truly believe in the voting rights act and giving the power back to the people PLEASE speak out! Please hold the conferences and push for full election reform among the new unrelenting media reform our country has to adopt for any hope of turnaround.

I believe in the truth of American democracy, but I see it being squandered and destroyed right before my very eyes. Don't hold back Senator, please join with Boxer, Biden, and Senator Harry Reid to hold full electoral reform conferences and fight this corruption back to whence it came. We have been in rough spots before, but the strength I see in your character has the willingness to overcome. Take back the rights we have from these extremists.

I saw it on the Senate floor this past weekend. You called them on what they were attempting to do, removing the checks and balances from our government. One that has stood for 215 plus years. Become that person, the one who stood up and stared Nixon down in the face for his illegal war waged against Vietnam!!! Stand up once more, we the people deserve the right to choose our leaders.

With this terrible and atrocious government allowing fraud by machine and worse, we are losing that right completely. I salute you, and hope that the leadership will stand up.

STAND UP NOW. WE ARE ONLY GOING TO GAIN OUR CIVIL RIGHTS BACK BY FIGHTING!

Sincerely,
Roger
Voter of the 26th district
