Since I cannot start a thread (which I think is a good rule by the way), I have to hijack one -- at least briefly. I do want this thread to continue on, though, because the topic is so important. (Moderators can feel free to move this, of course.)

But I also had something I wanted to say to all of you. You know that I read DU and have for quite some time, long before any of you knew my name. I really appreciate the support you have given me on this latest hurdle and before. It means a lot to me and to John.

Now that I have more time, I will post some, too. But today I want to share something inspiring, part of a letter from Thomas Jefferson. This is from the new Bernstein biography of Jefferson. Jefferson sent the letter in 1798 after the passage of the Sedition Act:

"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt. If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake."

Mrs. Edwards - I want to thank you for everything you did, and let you know that I think you and your family are exceptional. You gave us such hope and we'll carry that with us forward.

I am as disappointed to lose the opportunity to have you as the "Second Lady" as I am to lose the opportunity to have Mama T. as the "First Lady". You're both true portraits of modern women today, you represent us so much better than our current administration.

I'm not much of a prayer, Christianity kind of drove me away, but I am sending my best prayers, thoughts and wishes to you for a speedy recovery from your illness and for your whole family. I hope we haven't seen the last of all of you in the public spotlight.

Thanks to you and your husband for campaigning so vigorously. Hopeful and positive messages were so important to hear during the campaign.

I just wanted to say, as a cancer survivor myself, hang in there. I was young, 26 years old so it was difficult. I hope you don't find this presumptuous, but a little advice: don't be afraid to ask for help, don't always feel as though you have to strong for everyone else. I'm sure you'll be getting the best of health care. The nurses can be of tremendous help for alot of it. It's a scary diagnosis and there are days when it may seem overwhelming, but those days go by quickly.
I'll be thinking of you and your family and wish the best of health!

That is a good quote. I enjoy being on the side of principles.

I hope Democrats stay on the right side of things and get the message out to more people (though - I am of the belief that we won this election - I believe the exit polls).

The election has been stolen, and John PROMISED to count all the votes. Kerry was wrong; we have been and will remain divided whether or not anyone raises a stink about the stolen votes, recounts, or litigates. We are more angered now that democracy is dying!

I wish you all the best; and I'm hoping you can overcome and get well. Your family and the Kerry family have had my prayers for months, and you will continue to have them.

With all due respect to Jefferson; we have run out of luck. I'm firmly convinced that America will be much worse off now. And I'm enraged that we fought and lost due to theft and fraud from the other side.

It's people like John Edwards, Al Gore, Jimmy Carter and southern Democrats who I really have a passion supporting, despite having a ten-generation lineage native Pennsylvanian as well as Native American lieage all north of the Mason Dixon to boot.

While I supported your husband in our late primary, I admire Al Gore deeply. I only wish our ticket was weighted away from the Blue.

I thank you and Senator Edwards, Senator Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry, and your families for all that you've done.

I believe deeply in the hope and compassion that you gave to America. I have two small daughters (the same ages as your youngest two children) and I can't look at them without feeling sorrow for the path not taken... and hope for what might be.

My youngest, whose daycare is in a nursing home, asked the residents if they were going to vote for John Kerry. She pointed out every Kerry/Edwards sign she saw. And when I told her that we'd lost, she held my face in her hands, looked at me very closely and said, "Maybe John Kerry will win tomorrow, mom."

And you know what, John Kerry and John Edwards and Teresa Heinz Kerry and yourself ignited hope that there IS a tomorrow, and with patience and persistence, we'll be back to win another day.

Thank you. My thoughts and prayers are with you for all that you are dealing with right now.

I am a nurse in Pennsylvania YEAAAAAAAAAA we whooped in my state and the amount of people we had to volunteer was fantastic and our results showed as such, plus we little people in Pennsylvania are open minded. I volunteered at our rally and the crowd we had was unbelievable. THIS is Kerry/Edwards country in Allentown.

My prayers and thoughts are with you, thank goodness for modern medicine cancer survial is fantastic. My girlfriend was diagnosed last year with the ductal ca and she had chemo and radiation and one year later...HEALTHY and fine. I might add I was a bit jealous that her hair came in fully curled like she had a perm.
if there is anything I can do for you please let me know.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. You and Mrs Kerry are a great inspiration to women.

I had the pleasure of voting for your husband for both senate - and then for VP. He's an exceptional man and I hope he makes a run for the presidency one day!

I wish you a quick and easy treatment and recovery - your family has already been through too much already. Best wishes and thoughts are with you.

I hope John and John can somehow look into what happened in election 2004.

Our electoral system is severely broken and being taken advantage of by those who navigate and use its weaknesses to suppress or manipulate the votes cast.

We cannot be a beacon of Democracy until or unless this is fixed. Until it is, we are seen as naught but a laughing stock and a pariah among nations.

Of course, there are many reasons our worldwide reputation has suffered so badly in recent history. This is certainly one of them.

I wrote a note to you and Sen. Edwards over on the Kerry forums, but '
I think it was deleted (because I bluntly stated my feelings of refusal to hold an olive branch to my chest).

In any event -- thanks to you both. Your wonderful husband was my pick from the Iowa Caucus. He was the last push I needed to change my political registration from republican to democrat. It was because of him and his intense optimism that I have become such an activist so quickly. It feels like I've come home. Thank him for me -- hug him too. :)

From one American mom to another -- thank you so very much for showing the world what a beautiful, intelligent and well-spoken American women really is. You were always a breath of fresh air throughout the campaign with your level-headedness and integrity.

As for the rest... my strength is yours to use as you need it. Here's hoping the future holds nothing but good things for yourself, Sen. Edwards, Cate, Emma Clare and Jack. Thanks for sharing your wonderful family with all of us. Thanks for sharing yourself.

My hopes and thoughts for a complete, "forever" recovery.

I've had family experience with breast cancer and this cancer, like all cancers, is an affliction upon people that must be eliminated.

I hope that you and John can influence congress not only to pass legislation that requires a paper ballot but also robust, mandatory, manual auditing of elections. Other e-voting schemes and cryptography are only new recipes for disaster. No one considers the fact that new forms of technology also invite new and more egregious forms of fraud. The game of "beating and playing the system" is alway ahead of protecting the system.

It is time Congress quit listening to corporate and corporate-influenced election officials about voting. It is also time to invite more than computer scientists to testify. They are the mechanics who build the spec'd system. The system designers need to come from the voting activist community and accounting. Without that input, the status quo is likely to be maintained.


May you receive the best available treatment along with our hopes and prayers.

360. I second this -- AND have a couple more things to add
First, RedEagle and several other DUers have worked indefatigueably on BBV issues. I myself spent almost all of 2003 feverishly trying to make an impact on the issue. It is anything but tinfoil hat stuff. The Kerry/Edwards ticket did NOT lose this election -- it was stolen and the electronic voting machines (touchscreen AND optical scan) were a significant part of that theft, along with the normal vote suppression and other well-known types of vote fraud.

PLEASE, please, please help America one more time by making sure SOMEone in a position of power starts taking a good, long, hard look at this critical issue. Many DUers are as we speak pulling together various types of evidence and presenting it here. It thrills me that you read DU yourself, but in case you've been too busy with other things, you may not have a full appreciation for the incredible research that gets done here. Please try to find someone within your inner circle who can monitor this election business (and certain other topics) in the days ahead. Please also read this quote from Mark Crispin Miller -- I'm particularly thinking of his line about Kerry's response to the issue when Miller raised it with him some time ago:

I have to say that the Democrats' unwillingness to take this issue seriously, from the DNC on down with very few exceptions, is beyond our ability to comprehend, but it DOES make some of us begin to wonder exactly where some of their true loyalties lay.

I also hope you'll take the suggestion about Dr. Chrisitanne Northrup's book. I'm not familiar with it, but I am familiar with some of her other work. You DO want to find out what she has to say and the self-empowerment she can offer in this trying time.

Finally, let me add both my thoughts and prayers for your speedy healing, and my own personal thanks to you (and the Senator, of course) for your participation in this election season. Unfortunately, I only caught one of your appearances on C-Span, and not all of that, but I was totally dazzled by you. You and Teresa are stunning models of the contemporary American woman. Your Light shines very brightly, Ms. Edwards, and I think you surely must understand that from the adoring (and well-deserved) feedback you received on the campaign trail. Thank you for all you are and have done.

And Godspeed on this leg of your journey. We will all be waiting for word of your complete recovery, and your next step after that. I too would love to see you in a federal office, should that appeal to you.

My wife and I have been praying for you and your family all along but especially so now with the news of your breast cancer. We both know that you and your family will pull through this fine and you can count on us to be with you every step of the way!

We had the pleasure and honor of shaking hands with your husband at the rally in New Philadelphia, Ohio and in fact it was our grand daughter Sydney with the Kerry/Edwards face painting that Senator Edwards held by her shoulders as he looked into her eyes and face.

It was a magical moment for our wonderful grand daughter as well as ourselves and we cannot wait to support your husband in his quest for the White House in 2008. You have a fine man, a fine family and our prayers and hopes are with you!

Mrs. Edwards, there are votes still uncounted and numbers that aren't adding up. This is not about installing our guys into the White House; this is about every vote on those ballots being counted. We have patience, but we need leadership, too, even if only to gain mindshare with a public that has seen both a concession and a victory speech federally, and newspaper headlines about state ballot measures and offices that have been deemed pass/fail. Please encourage your husband and Senator Kerry to vocally support the public discussion of identifying and counting these votes.

Time and patience. **sigh** The latter not being one of my strong points, it's a bittersweet realization, at best. My elder son (12 y.o.) asked me last night, "How can 59 million people possibly be that stupid?" I explained it to both my boys as best I could. Fortunately, they have much more patience than I do and are not about to give up working to restore our government. If nothing else, this election created two young activists who are now Democrats to their core. (As an aside, it was my 12 year old who watched that recent 'Nightline' with me and we both think that Jack is an absolute hoot! My two, at that age, probably would've said exactly the same things! LOL!)

I understand you've been lurking for a while, so,...Welcome to DU as a poster! :hi: You already know it's quite a place plus an awesome source of support and information. I don't think I could handle living in Texas anymore without it. Honestly.

As you'll see from my sigline, the lessons of history have great meaning to me and so I'm very appreciative of your Jefferson quote.

I have so much respect for you and your family (as well as the Kerrys and Chris Heinz was very much appreciated when he stopped by to post yesterday).

I also know that your need to reach out to others-- while you are dealing with your own health issues-- speaks volumes to you as a person, as well as for your hopes for the future. While we don't yet have the absolute scientific proof, there are suggestions, surely, that those who are able to focus on others, rather than allow the stress response that is normal when focused on ones own difficulties to consume them, have a boost to their own immune system. Not hard to understand, really... Stress hormones have very negative effects on immunity and healthy. Thus, the very fact that you are focused on the future and on others, not only speaks volumes to your strength of character-- but it also tells me that all will be well for you. I am absolutely convinced. Certainly you have our thoughts and prayers with you as well. Treatment guided by the best science, but supported by faith, is a powerful combination, imo.

I'm heartened that our grief and sadness at Tuesday's events, has now turned to serious consideration of where to focus our efforts. Please stay involved to give your input and advice where you can. I know if you see an occasional critical comment from a DUer here (about the campaign or even about Senator Kerry or your husband), you will realize that it is emotion speaking and not reality. We are VERY appreciative of the hard fight you all undertook and we are proud of all of you. Please know that!

We have together incited a core of highly motivated activists. While I am in Colorado--a red state, for now-- I take heart in the fact that our State House has gone Democratic in both House and Senate, and we were able to send our Hispanic Democratic candidate, Salizar to the US Senate. As I write this, students in the Boulder High School are now protesting in a 24 hour plus sit-in, demanding to know of Republican standardbearers why their concerns over the draft, the war, the environment, and the devastating budget deficit have not been addressed. The youth are "getting it!"

Now, we must determine how best to focus our efforts. Onward, all. We are here to support and encourage each other and it means EVERYTHING to us, Elizabeth that you (and Chris, yesterday) are here to aid in that effort. Bless you!

With all that is going on in your life right now, for you to take a minute to address this forum speaks volumes of the type of person you are.

I don't think everyone here is quite "cursed out" yet, reeling as we are from Tuesday's outcome. It hurts knowing what might have been -- and living with what we're stuck with. In time, I'm sure we will see the wisdom in the Jefferson quote you posted, and the threads will once again be full of ideas and optimism.

You can never imagine how much your words uplifted me this morning!
From the first moment that I saw you on television I thought,"Now that is one classy lady."

You are my brand new hero, a drum major for justice and honesty.

I was listening to you speak on television a few days ago and my mom,86, came into the room. She told me to "Put this on Tivo, I want to keep on seeing it!"

From that day to this, she has asked me to let her watch you at that town hall meeting. She critiques it each time.

Mom's assessment of you...

. A kind sparkle in your eyes that was still there, even when you were letting those mean Republicans have it!

. A lovely mother and wife

. You just seem to be beautiful inside and out

. How can one person be that smart!

. She would love to meet you some day!


I share her assessment of you and if you ever speak in Los Angeles, we will be right there to see you!

My mom had major surgery in June and two weeks after surgery her doctor allowed her to go to Clinton's book signing. I rolled her in a wheel chair to meet President Clinton! It was one of the greatest thrills of her life.

Last night I had to gently tell her about your health. She cried like a baby.

We said a prayer for you and then she looked up at me and said," My Elizabeth is a tough little cookie! If she could come through that campaign with those damn dirty Bushes, she can come through this!
She'll be fine!"

My mom is one wise woman and I just want you to know that we are sending you hugs all the way from Los Angeles. :loveya:

You and Teresa both are what women in this country and world should be. Strong, independent and yet prove these qualities do not interfere with being a good wife and mother. Obviously our opponents and their fundie beliefs would have us believe otherwise.

I am saddened to hear of your battle with breast cancer and will pray for your speedy recovery.

Thank you and John for all the hope you brought us. I haven't been so impressed by a democratic team in a long time. I truly believe the country will live to regret the day they allowed the Kerry/Edwards team to be robbed of their rightful place in the presidency.

I was one of the few who supported your husband in the primaries, and was ecstatic when Senator Kerry nominated him for the VP slot, because I knew what a dynamic team they would be. NOTHING that has occured has changed my opinion.

I think we all know who truly won this election, and we all know why.
As long as there are true patriots like you and your husband and Senator Kerry and his wife, I will have hope in my heart that our beloved Democracy will never breathe its last breath. For that, I will be forever grateful.

I know we were all shell shocked when we heard the news of your illness on top of such a crushing defeat, and I would only ask you to take this time to take care of yourself and your beautiful family.

I came to the Kerry campaign because I supported your husband. During the last few months I have watched you speak and grown to admire you greatly. I hope that you recover quickly from this latest hurdle and that you get some much deserved rest. Please also give my best to your husband and tell him I appreciate his efforts.


I also would invite you to consider something, running in 2008. I believe that the only way the Democratic party will be able to recover is to give the people what they are really seeking, a real candidate who does not represent more of the same. Over 100,000,000 voters stayed home this time and I believe a real people's candidate could energize them into action. And if the Democrats don't want to wake up, perhaps the time has finally come in America for a much needed third party, one who embraces the real America, one who does not leave anyone out in cold.

He was my first pick for President and although he has decided not to run for a second term in the Senate (I wish he would reconsider -America needs him), it is my prayer that he will head the democratic presidential ticket in 2008. We need someone who not only understands where we are coming from, but more importantly where we need to go from here. When my ten year old son came home from school Wednesday and asked who won, he cried when I gave him the news, saying "But this means we will be poor". For even at his young age, he has witnessed first hand the sacrifices we make as a family to tenuously hold on to our middle class status. As a mother, I had to put all my feelings of defeat aside and feign hope that in 4 years a GOOD man would take office and be able to pick America back up, dust her off, and make her shine once more. Please know that your husband is that GOOD man. After the rigors of the campaign trail, you both may be tempted to pull out of the lime light. Please do not. To survive the next four years, America still needs to hear that hope is on the way.

Forgive me if I'm not in a very trusting mood, but I just watched an election being stolen right in front of my eyes. If you really are EE, I first want to offer you my best wishes for your health.

Second, I want you to ask your husband why we've been screaming about honest elections and black box voting and voter disenfranchisement for several years and yet the Democratic leaders did nothing to prevent the election being stolen AGAIN.

I am so devastated by the concession and so disgusted with the Democratic leadership for not trying to protect my vote and my rights, I don't know what to do anymore.

Thanks for your best wishes. And it really is me. I posted in response to a post from someone who graduated from the high school I graduated from -- and I don't think that high school is mentioned in anything published about me, to confirm that it is me.

And I signed up the regular way, because I am just a regular poster -- I had signed up some time ago and posted, before the recent "fame" under my first screen name, but felt that I shouldn't hide when posting during the campaign. But the campaign got hectic so fast, and when I had access to a computer I posted on the Kerry blog first, and though I usually read DU, I didn't post then.

I do think someone from DU confirmed with the campaign that this is me.

And as for voter fraud, we are still piecing together the same stuff you are piecing together. I know that the two candidates had been assured that everything was in place -- and there was certainly a lot of visibility. I can't yet blame the people in the field who I believe were working hard to stop the election from being stolen. I don't think -- even in our frustration (and no one is more frustrated than we are) -- that we can say "the Democratic leaders did NOTHING to prevent the election being stolen."

Look at the difference in percentages on the far right. The difference in voter expectation vs. so called turnout is dramatic.

I have to believe that John-John are doing all they can behind the scenes to make sure there were no voter irregularities. I have to believe that they would not abandon us so quickly. It was wise to concede IF they planned to go "underground" and check the truth of the results.

Why did the exit polls differ so much from the final results? Something is not quite right...........

630. The day after I believed DNC did nothing
then I heard news stories about the house and senate TRYING to pass bills requiring a paper trail and the republicans halted the effort.

Now, I blame the media because they failed to get the message out against George Bush and who are now blaming the "gay agenda" and gay marriage for loosing.

Morality didn't loose the election--immoral actions did. The media should be covering the issues that concern us.

I've met your husband in our office - the last time was when my partner "A" invited him the night before he was asked to be the VP nominee.

During the primaries, my daughter met him at a dinner. John came up to her, called her blondie (she was 8) and offered to sign her paper. He was called away at that moment and we'd thought he wouldn't return to fulfill that offer. But sure enough, with no reminding, he returned and signed my daughter's paper.

My dad helped chauffeur your staff to the plane in Manchester NH on one of your last stops. He enjoyed talking to you very much. My parents went to see you - and my mom says you are great - you are the best.

We all pray for your recovery, and for your family as they fight with you to regain your health. We love you!

As a cancer survivor I know how important it is to have a family such as yours standing beside you.

Without this past election campaign, we never would have had the opportunity to meet you or your family and with each of these meetings both you, John and Kate with the two little ones in tow, gave us all hope for ourselves and our Nation.

Elizabeth as you can see from those posting here at DU and I am positive others throughout the world, your family has grown immensely. You and yours have made us a family of Humanity and we all send you loving blessings and support.

It's nice to know that some of the powerful within the Democratic party are paying attention to the rest of us. That way the brainstorming and research done on this site can wield results.

My husband and I supported your husband in the primary (we door knocked in Iowa) because his notes of economic populism ring so true.

Sometimes the loss of a political battle allows us time to reflect, recharge and regroup so that new and better avenues and approaches toward victory become apparent. Perhaps this loss (not only of the Presidency but Senate seats) will prove cathartic.

Thanks to you and your husband for really getting what it means to be a Democrat, and doing your best to further democracy.

I was one of those volunteers who canvassed every weekend, and also was an Election Protection poll monitor. I saw John and Teresa Kerry in Boca Raton two weeks ago, and your husband Monday night in Pompano Beach. Both rallies were inspirational. After working to ensure the people of District 26 in West Palm Beach were aware of the voting machine malfunctions, aware of their rights as voters,and helping them in any way I could, I was devasted when I woke up on Wed. to rumblings of Kerry conceding.

I can't imagine how you, John, and the Kerrys feel. And now you are having to go through diagnoses and treatment on top of all of it. Just know my thoughts are with you. I'm a cancer survivor and have been in remission for 20 years. With the love and support of your family and friends, you also will be celebrating that 20 year anniversary as a cancer survivor someday, I am sure!

Tell John and the Kerrys they did their best, but nothing could have won over electronic voting machines that are easily manipulated by those who made them and were in charge of them, who had promised to deliver the election to Bush.

My wife and I have been North Carolina residents since 1992 (we are transplants from...let's see - Rhode Island/Massachusetts, New Hampshire/Vermont, Washington State, Pennsylvania - then NC) - so we feel particularly "close" to you and your husband, both geographically and politically. The way your family has handled life - as shown by how you worked through the challenges you have faced, the way you have carried yourselves through the often cruel spotlight of the campaign, what you have done for people here in NC - is an inspiration for us all. Though our family is of course crushed with the disappointment of the outcome of the election, it is our nature to be optimistic. As your literary reference above so eloquently states, patience is needed - and somehow we will try to find that patience, though the last four years has created incredible damage and despair. It is bright lights like you, your husband and daughter, the Kerry family - that can help us find the energy to go forward.

the incredible work you have done...Here in Canada, as in most of the rest of the world, we were praying for George Bush to be defeated...It is hard to believe that in 4 years, the good will we all felt towards your country because of 9/11 (in Canada's case because we have always been good neighbours too), has been so eroded by the reckless actions of the man now in the White House....I'm still praying that some sort of voter machine fraud will be proven and Mr. Kerry will still be president.....Canada's prayers are with you and your family and also with the Kerrys.... :loveya:

P.S...Many Canadians, like me and many from other countries have been so heartened by finding this forum of wonderful, open-hearted Americans, who do not share the narrow outlook of George Bush!

It means a lot to me and as you can see, to the other DUers. You, your husband and your family had and have my full and unwavering support. And aside from the heartsickness I feel over the election, I'm also disappointed that as a new NC resident, Mr. Edwards won't be my senator, either!

I wish you a speedy recovery, and I sincerely hope this isn't impertinent but my sister, who had a lumpectomy and radiation (7 years ago and still cancer-free) found silk squares strategically positioned to be very helpful after radiation therapy irritated her skin. Cut up old soft silk blouses.

We are all working hard to uncover the fraud that is becoming more evident in this election. One has to look at the methods of voting, whether or not there was a paper trail, and the registered Democrats and Republicans in each county for both Florida and Ohio. I am currently working on Florida. When this data is compared to the initial exit polls in which Kerry and your husband won, but lost in the final vote, it is clear that some sort of tampering went on in those counties without a paper receipt.

Thanks, Elizabeth, for coming by. We need to hear from leadership and inspirational figures right now. We know the fix was in, in this election, and we're spreading the word. Please pass along to your husband and to John Kerry that we haven't stopped fighting, but we need their backup. Though for yourself, your first priority is to get well. Keep in mind, good nutrition (strictly organic if possible), proven vitamins and supplements, avoidance of stress (yeah, I know - almost impossible these days), a positive outlook and determination. I know you have those. :)

There's a lot of mobilization here. I for one don't take being robbed and disenfranchised lightly. Our hope and our future was stolen from us by massive election fraud. But if there's any way I can have a hand in building the "new economy" that will bring the bastards down, I will do what it takes. We'll rely on each other, help each other through, and rise again to victory. But it's vital that our heroes check in with us now and again, which is why I started out with "please stay visible." John Kerry is President in Exile now, as far as I'm concerned, and John Edwards is VP. Please, all of you, keep in touch. Stay safe, stay well, stay energized. There will be justice in the world.

221. Just a week ago today I saw you, John and the kids in Raleigh.
Was lucky enough to be on the rope line - about 10 feet from you. I got to shake John's hand. Seems like months ago now as so much as happened to the country and to you in just 7 days.

The thing I am most grateful for in this past election cycle was the chance for our young women (and the world) to see such great role models. You, Teresa, Cate, the Kerry daughters, Chelsea, the N.J. Women, Mary Beth Cahill, Dr. Rice (forget her first name), Caroline, and on and on.

Last night at my local pub a toast was made to the K/E women. The toasters were mostly men. We had been discussing the election and were upset about the reported voting results and so angry and frustrated about the abuse of voters by not protecting the results - it seems like rape. Anyway, looking for a mood change we drank to the women.

When one vote goes uncounted the heart of democracy is bleeding. Our hearts are broken, our resolve is granite. Love and good luck to you.

I live in Raleigh and had the pleasure of voting for your husband twice. In my precinct, we chaired the drive to get registered Democrats to the polls that have only voted twice in the past 4 elections. We had a record number turn out, 87% voted that day.

My aunt has survived two mastectomies and my Mom died last September from Colon Cancer. I wish a speedy recovery from this insidious disease. Please join us as often as you can. We are an enlightened but rowdy bunch of hard core Democrats who are hurting for our country right now. And please, look at the sites listed on voter fraud and see what you and the lawyers can do about the electronic voter fraud. Speaking as a Canadian, I was very, very proud to see you and John, and John K. and Teresa, looking so confident and hopeful onstage on Wednesday. It made me realize that there is still a LOT that everybody can do -- and that the true spirit of the United States, the decency and compassion which we as your neighbours have seen so much of -- cannot be vanquished. Just as you, yourself, will prevail.

Thank you for helping put everything into perspective, and for sharing your time with us right now, when your own life is so busy. Elections can be tiring and acrimonious, and there must have been times when you logged into DU and either cursed or laughed out loud at some of the stuff people were posting!

Take care, and remember that you have a lot of friends here.

By the way -- your name was the one that stood out for me, months before the convention -- though I have to confess that it's because I went to school with another Elizabeth Edwards quite some time ago!

I was angry at JK for conceding so soon the other day and regret my post. I was so proud to cast my vote for him and your husband. In fact, in all my years of voting only twice have I felt inspired by my votes for the Dem candidate and this vote was one of those times. I truly believed in him. I still do.

I appreciate the quote. I think we as a party cannot survive without really IDENTIFYING the PRINCIPLES on which our votes are cast and I believe at the core of those principles is the greater good.

I wish you well during treatment and if it's any consolation, a coworker of mine went through treatment 5 years ago and is five years cancer free.

Thanks so much for communicating with us and for at least telling us that someone knows we're here.

Your writing is just amazing! I read your blogs this summer when you and Senator Edwards were on the train campaigning w/Senator Kerry. I believe it was you who insisted they turn the train around and go back to Lawrence, Ks because the people there thought you'd scheduled a stop and waited for you. You wrote that you felt bad for leaving them, and the next time I read it, you'd gone back. That really impressed me. (That, and you're celebrating your anniversary at Wendy's. You are truly a woman of the people.)

I'm sorry for the news we have heard concerning your health and many
are sending you healing...

I think you are a fantastic, intelligent, woman with a lot of good solid spine and you are certainly admired.

I was a volunteer usher at your husband's Boynton Beach, Fl speech and when the mob surged to shake his hand, they threw me off balance. I would have fallen had it not been Senator Edwards' wrist I was holding onto. :) and which gave me the support to get back up. Do tell him, I thank you.

Although Senator Edwards and/or Governor Dean were my first choices for President, like a good democrat I supported the party's choice and worked myself to exhaustion in the Delray HQ, as many other not so young democrats did, to carry Kerry to a win.

Kerry has severely disappointed me by not waiting eleven days for all the military and absentee ballots to be counted.

He promised to fight and had 10,000 lawyers, many who were here in Palm Beach County Florida, but he did not use them.


In Delray Beach, at Temple Sinai where three districts voted, we poll watchers were told at 6 PM in the evening that the electronic machines were not registering votes properly and to warn the voters going in to check their summary sheets to see that who they voted for were listed on the final electronic page. It would have been more helpful if we had been told this at 10 AM, not at 6 PM with one hour to go. by the fact that 99.6 percent of the people took the democratic
palm tickets in with them to vote, and that an inside poll watcher came out to tell me 800 people were standing in line with these dem cards in their hands, we know how the vote went.

Dem Party regulars ask us to continue to support a party which does not support us .

If Senator Kerry had not conceded in practically seconds, if Senator Kerry had kept his promise to fight and used the lawyers, the free volunteer lawyers, to show the rigging of the machines....(which many are working on showing here on DU, and have found computer code 18180 used to delete names, but which will get no publicity or action without a Kerry or an Edwards) there would be reason to hope that democracy would continue in America, that America would have a government by, for, and of the people.

Since Senator Kerry ran away and left his supporters twisting in the wind - we now have a totalitarian government, i.e. dictatorship without the checks and balances the founding documents intended.

There will not be another election to win. Democracy is dead in this country and November 3, 2004 is the day it died.

William Jefferson Clinton is the last truly democratically elected President of the United States and it is doubtful there will be another - for Senator Kerry did not fight to prove the machines without paper trails were rigged.

I won;t be working for the Democratic Party again because it doesn't work for me. To work for me it would have to stand up and fight to save this country from the destruction of the Constitution and the fascism that now engulfs it.

I also think Senator Kerry has signed the death warrant for the democratic party; this is implosion.

How disappointing.

In the future, I will sooner give my energy,time, money, and support
to any third or fourth or fifth people's party, then the democratic party. To tell us to join in making bushit's four years successful is
akin to in 1938 suggesting we join Hitler's Nazi party.

Forgive my anger, which is NOT addressed AT you who I deeply admire or
at your husband, for whom I had the highest hopes. But I do hope you will pass this on to Senator Kerry and whomever is managing the democratic party.

Through the campaign I felt like I got to know all of you. You gave all of us so much hope, inspiration and sunshine. Hope we can return some of that back to you.

I felt so proud to see all of you in Greensburg PA in July and John again last Sunday! I hope I will be seeing you all again in the future in person.

And I so enjoyed seeing your Town Hall on CSPAN from Harrisburg PA - I wish more Americans could've seen how well you spoke to ordinary Americans about what Kerry/Edwards was offering. Maybe if they had we'd have gotten those votes we needed :)

You, John and your children are in my thoughts and prayers. I know you will face this cancer with incredible courage and hope. And I know you will beat it back!

Thank you for the wonderful quote from Thomas Jefferson. I will save it and refer to it often in the days ahead. And thank you for thinking of all of us.

My sister-in-law is a happy, healthy breast cancer survivor; I know a little bit of what your family is going through right now.

I truly do believe that God does not place more upon our shoulders than we can bear. I have come to see you speak twice in person (at a rally in Harrisburg and at a town meeting in Lancaster, PA) and I can sense that you are a very strong person. I know you will emerge from this trial an even stronger person, with even more knowledge and experience that will help you in your work on behalf of those in this country who need help and healing.

Thank you for bringing such an articulate, powerful voice to the Kerry/Edwards campaign this year. You were so impressive in advocating for the administration of your husband and John Kerry. I will always be grateful for the inspiration you gave all of us.

I have seen that there are few people who question whether or not this is really me. I puzzled how to "prove" myself. I don't think that anywhere it has been published that I went for one year -- my senior year in high school -- to Hammond High School in Alexandria, Virginia (now folded into TC Williams) -- but I did and graduated in 1967. The school was named for a Navy Corpsman who died (in Korea I think) and the mascot was an Admiral. Anyway, Digit, can confirm all this.

To "prove" that I have been a reader for a while, blm -- who posted a welcome here -- was a big Edwards' supporter in the primaries. And before the primaries, my husband's name was almost never mentioned on DU.

Another "proof"? DU checked with the campaign when I signed up to see if it was really me; they checked with me and I told them I had, and I think the campaign confirmed it to DU, but I never double-checked to see if that last step happened.

We're not ready to give up the fight. It's clear to me, from everything I've seen leading up to the election, that Kerry should have won this election. The exit polls strongly pointed to a Kerry win; so did the huge crowds of hopeful people who attended Kerry/Edwards rallies across the country.

Late in the evening on election night, John Edwards told us that he & Kerry would make sure that every vote counted. We heard it reported on cnn that the Red Sox owner offered his private plane to fly Kerry's lawyers to Ohio to oversee the vote count. We heard nothing more about the lawyers. Instead, Kerry conceded before the votes were counted. Having the campaign workers crunch the numbers to project the outcome is one thing; ensuring that votes weren't manipulated is another. I'm terribly disappointed that Kerry conceded without taking a longer look at any disparities. I'm concerned that in between the time we learned about Kerry's lawyers making plans to travel to Ohio & the next morning when Kerry conceded, that some back-door pressuring was going on between this crooked administration & Kerry. I'm wondering if he was threatened in some way.

I'm not ready to stop fighting. Four years is too long to wait for hope. Too much damage can be done to this country.

Please forgive me for using this opportunity as a soapbox. I wish you & John & your lovely family the very, very best.

And good luck with your health, Mrs. Edwards. My mother had a golf-ball sized lump in her breast in 2000. She is cancer-free & doing wonderfully.

Just want you to know, I watched every town hall meeting with you in it that they would play on C-Span. You should be so proud of yourself and your husband. I will pray that you are blessed with the best health you have ever had. I so much was looking forward to seeing your family and Teresa's family in the White House. I hope and pray that America will turn around and see the light that both John's held. That light that was flickering went out for me and this is the darkest day in America for me personally. But, I will keep faith because now that we see how strong we can become we can only grow stronger. Even though Bush has put that light out we will again light it. I really don't see how America will come together under Bush. My anger, sadness, and anxiety seems to never end with that man in office. I know you must understand. I love reading about the events that led to the American Revolution. So many colonists struggling with their growing disdain for the British rule...and how fitting that it should all happen under King George III. God has a soft spot for irony it seems.

As a Texas Democrat, I'm starting to truly comprehend the sheer anger and resentment at the notion of taxation without representation. Thanks Delay! :grr: On the bright side, history tells me it would be un-American to not fight against this madness and since I love my country, I'm prepared to do whatever it takes to make Jefferson proud. It seems fair given what he and the thousands of others had to endure to secure the freedoms I take for granted today.

And as for you, I think the world of you. I suspect John's smile wouldn't be nearly as bright without you in his life. You've raised a great husband (ha ha!), a beautiful family, and my thoughts and heart are with you.

Use every tool available to fight. Good medical care is the beginning, of course. The support of your family is important, and you have such a wonderful family! Being educated and informed about the disease and your own diagnostic info helps. I even used visualization of the cancer being clobbered in my body. They even say prayers of others can make a difference; even though I am not religious at all, I think there is some spiritual dimension in life that would account for this phenomena.

Thank you for letting us get to know you during the campaign. I admire you so much!

Hope you and John can come to Little Rock on November 18 for the opening of the Clinton Presidential Center. I'll be on the lookout for you.

but fortunately for me it was only basal cell on the nose. Had a great plastic surgeon and it only had to be revised once to get the rest of it. Hang in there and tell John THANKS FOR THE FIGHTING SPIRIT. That spirit is what it takes to beat all things, including cancer.

When John entered the race, I hoped he'd go all the way as the standardbearer. I was extremely sad when he conceded; I thought he'd make a great president. I was so happy when Senator Kerry picked him up as his running mate.

You two put everything on the line for this one. That's got to take guts. And then Bush and his evil minions screwed you. That felt like a punch in the guts to me; I can only imagine how it felt to you.

thank you. It's a reminder that as dark a time as it is now, our history has seen many troubled times and 'patience' shall be rewarded by the good sense of the people. The problem is, at this time, I have lost faith in the good sense of the people- but I hope as time passes, I can recover my faith and optimism and, the American people will "recover their sight" which left them on Nov. 2nd.

I want to thank you and your family from the bottom of my heart, for all of your efforts during the campaign. About your health: my Mom had breast cancer- her surgery was in 1986- and she is alive, healthy and kicking today! You will recover. And you have the good fortune to have such a wonderful family surrounding you. I have a 2 year-old myself (I think your kids are a little older) and what a joy she brings to my life. I live everyday to make her happy and make her life better. She's my everything, really. So, you are a blessed woman.

Much, much love and respect from at least 53% + of us American voters! :-) Did you see the letter I wrote you on the JohnKerry.com site? It is full of healing advice. Try the zapper first--it really kills cancer, as does the coconut oil et al.

Thank you for all you have given us! Our spirits are hope filled that, under the radar, the counting really IS going on. Could Ralph Nader's attempt to recount in New Hampshire be the springboard for the other recounts? It would be proof for a court of law to make that judgement, I would think.

I've been lurking here for awhile too and waiting for the right time to post. When I saw yours, I knew it was time. I was in Dorton Arena in Raleigh last Friday night. You were absolutely AWESOME! Loved the way you outlined the differences in the candidates. You got us so "pumped up"! And then yesterday I found out that you had just come from the family doctor when you spoke to us--wow, you are one strong, strong woman. Words cannot express my deep and sincere admiration! Like the rest of the good folks at DU, I have felt devastated the past few days with what seems like a constant barrage of bad news. Thank you so much for sending us this quote of inspiration. We will indeed continue working for the principles we believe in- for it is a just cause. Lots of love and admiration from a fellow Triangle area North Carolinian!! I am amazed by you. With all that you are going through you take the time to come here and give us words of comfort. I knew from the first moment we got to know you that you were a truly special person. You were the breath of fresh air in this campaign. It was a gift each time we got to hear you speak. You are a wonderful wife, mother, and make all of us women proud.

You may think this strange but since I first saw you I have felt like I know you. Why? Well, you just look so much like my mom and her sisters. Honestly you look so much like them I'd swear you were part of our family. So when we heard about the news that you were sick we said prayers for you and your family. You are such a strong woman and you have an amazing family I have no doubt that you will beat this thing.

I also want you to thank your husband for me. The only thing that gave me comfort the past few days was seeing what I think was his anger on Wednesday. Sen. Kerry just looked sad but your husband sounded angry and I was glad that he was feeling what I was. I don't know why Sen. Kerry gave up so soon. I'm sure he thought what he was doing was for the best. I just want you to let your husband know that there was fraud this time too. I've always felt that your husband was the kind of man that was destined for even more greatness and maybe this could be his cause. We seem to have no voice and he has always said he was fighting for us. We need someone to fight for us now.

I have prayed , and continue to pray for your speedy recovery and the strength and support of your (immediate) family. ( You have a much larger but no less loving , but less "immediate" family here)

You have no idea how you touched the heart of this 41 yr old immigrant in this campaign. As much as I admired the courage and values of John-K and John-E , I will never ( and I mean NEVER !) forget turning on C-Span one day several weeks ago and seeing you standing in the middle of a school Gymnasium in a small towm somewhere in middle-america...you , all alone in the middle of the flooor with a microphone in your hand took question after question , unscripted , no "pre-pledge signing"...from the real people of this country ....for that you had my heart at "Hello I'm Elizabeth Edwards"


But there's more...

You not only took any question going ,but you gave the MOST eloquent and reasoned answers to every question asked that I've ever heard from ANY candidate in any election in my lifetime.

The one that sticks out in my mind and will forever is the answer to the the "cost of frivolous lawsuits re medial insurance"..to my shame I'd heard some of the answer before but had forgotten it bUT for the first time inthis campaign I heard someone remind the public that Medical Insurance Cos . like all Insurnace Cos , take preiums today and invest them in the stock market to pay for payouts in the future...when the stockmarket went south in 2001-04 they had to raise premiums because returns from their investments in Stocks were small or even negative.

Anyway...enough said ..........WE LOVE YOU !

We appreciate the hard work you and your family has done for this election. Your family as well as the Kerry's represented TRUTH. As you can read here, the DU family is very distraught over the lost of this year's presidential elections.

Some of us in DU has been strategizing in the last few days a massive boycott of corporations that support the Bush regime. We feel it's the only power we have. It would be a great way to demontrate to the world a civilized, peaceful, and non-violent way to handle a conflict. No need for riots were precious lives are endangered. The only form of communication with this adminstration is through our dollars. Since Bush panders so much to corportations, it would be best if we deprive them of revenue until they learn to respect the American people. There's no law that says we have to shop at Wal-Mart.

I was lucky enough to see your husband twice and Senator Kerry four times (It's nice to live in a swing state!). They were by far the best candidates and why Americans chose the other is so bewildering to me. The answer might just be that they DID chose the right ones but got cheated. I am no conspiracy theorist but looking at the exit polls in swing states and then looking at the actual vote would make ANYONE suspicious. And with Ohio and Florida - no paper trail.

Kerry and Edwards had all the momentum, all the energy, all the joy.

432. What I recall about the campaign....
I was working for the Kerry campaign in Cleveland, Ohio, phoning people from the Parma office. When it was decided that John and Elizabeth Edwards would do a town hall meeting in Parma on the same day as the vice presidential debate, I was offered the chance to work at the event . Although I desperately wanted to get inside and listen to the meeting, I worked visibility outside near the street.
I'll always remember how you acknowledged us with smiles and waves as the motorcade went by. It meant so much after 5 hours of standing outside waving and yelling and holding our signs high.
Later, I caught one of your town hall meetings on c-span. I was truly impressed with your manner of answering the questions. You are a fine spokeswoman for the Democratic party.
I'm with all the others here in thanking you for your efforts and wishing you the best with your health. My mother beat cancer this year, and I'm certain you will too. May God continue to bless you, John and the kids.

Things aren't looking so hopeful now, but I continue to hope and work for a better future.

This is fantastic you're going to be part of the on-line community.
I saw you on CSPAN and just could not believe how well you explained
the details on the issues, quickly, in layman's terms. I personally
saw "political star" when you did that talk. I hope you beat this thing now, more for selfish reasons. We need people like you desperately.

I personally want to see the details on what is going on with the take over of America pushed by radical ideologues communicated to the people. The blogosphere and the information age is a great way to do this. We cannot rely on the mainstream press at all. I also think
this is one of the major reasons of the loss. Neocons with their
radical agenda to hand over the entire role of government to a few elites and multinational corporations is a silent coup. To date, yet to be exposed for the underlying radical and endangering agenda, ideology and the consequences if they succeed.

The propaganda machine, especially in the rural areas, strung together with church elders selling this radical agenda through claims of "moral values" and fear, newspapers that whitewash stories and publish little in-depth journalism and television spewing outright misinformation via the rantings of "anger cheerleaders" and "fear mongers" is programmed and controlled by this radical right.

This isn't the first time that some piped piper lead the populist to their doom with a hypnotic theme and I strongly suggest to the DNC
a public relations strategy based on past as well as incorporating the new communication tools of this era, to somehow cut through this wave of fear and lies to expose the truth.

Repeatedly I requested the campaign release detailed papers on plans, facts and information on the radical agenda in the rural areas. Rural people just do not have the web surfing skills of the cities, the ability to find information quickly on-line and so forth. The details need to be presented to the people, somehow, by talking with them, in person and using old fashioned paper documents that they can read. The DNC needs to talk to these people with the same will that the Jehovah witness's bang on the door in these areas.

It seems like the overall theme in information has been that truth can be colored and is somehow acceptable.

The truth shall set you free.

Both my wife and I send our love and prayers to you and John for your speedy and complete recovery. We know only too well the anguish you must be facing. But we know you will do just fine because you have the will and the spirit to fight it. My wife is your age and recently had a double mastectomy, went through radiation and chemotherapy. But she is also a tough woman and I know we are going to be fine. If we can be an inspiration to you please let it be. You are also welcome to PM for any thoughts or advice we can offer to you.
