74. "If a large enough sector of the population wants you gone,
it should be considered, full stop." What the hell does it even mean? Are you saying that any ruler without 100% support of the population is illegitimate? What president or prime minister in the world does not have "large enough sector of the population" want him gone? How large is "large enough"? Obviously, for you 10% is "large enough". Is 5% enough? And how should it be "considered"? Does "full stop" mean that I am not allowed to ask those questions? Or is it there just to signify that you have ran out of arguments and decided to take a rest? Tyrants or not, maybe Mubarak and Ben Ali should not have left. Maybe if they cared enough about their nations' future they would not have. Talking of false premises, none is falser than assuming that getting rid of Ben Ali or Mubarak or Qaddafi or Saleh is somehow magically going to solve all their countries' problems and make everyone there richer and happier. Just as false is the assumption that anyone who hates a tyrant is automatically a democrat. Want another false premise? Here is one - NATO and the West care about Libyans' freedom and wellbeing. Get two more by substituting "Libyans" with "Tunisians" and "Egyptians". Get 120 more by substituting with every other nation on earth. Here is one which is absolutely 100% not false - NATO and the West love and want the oil. Start with that and see where it takes you.
