The Orthodox celebrate St. Nicholas Day on December 19.

However, today is also Thursday and the Orthodox Church sings hymns for St. Nicholas every Thursday.

So, you could say that today is a double dip St. Nicholas Day.

If you wish to read about St. Nicholas:

The tradition of Saint Nicholas Day, usually on 6 December (19 December in most Orthodox countries), is a festival for children in many countries in Europe related to surviving legends of the saint, and particularly his reputation as a bringer of gifts. The American Santa Claus, as well as the British Father Christmas, derive from these legends. "Santa Claus" is itself derived in part from the Dutch Sinterklaas.

I have noticed that, in the U.S., celebrations of St. Nicholas Day in the U.S., are mighty few and far between.

So, I really want to know: who started the American war on St. Nicholas Day, hmmmmm?
