they likely would not have found the monopoly so useful if there was actually a need for balance of any kind.

it's overwhelming power in media and politics comes from coordinated repetition from blowhards who are protected by call screeners and have virtually no challenge to their lies in real time.

i'll also bet that the main reason they won that deregulation and got clinton to sign it was that he was weakened then by talk radio. limbaugh was already all over the place on the loudest stations with little or no challenge or correction, successfully swiftboating and obstructing clinton on many things, including health care, supremes, and blue stained dresses.

it doesn't matter that much how many stations are clear channel and how many another monopoly if they all have limbaugh and hannity and beck and savage all over the place overlapping.
