First, as Democrats have always argued, the restoration of tax cuts is not a tax increase. Second, as Bernie Sanders eloquently pointed out, UC benefits would be extended regardless of the fate of the tax cuts. And third, didn't we hear the "you better vote for this or the world will end" shock doctrine when the Bush administration was lobbying for the much unneeded bankster bailout?

In addition, all the Bush tax cuts expire at the end of the year, Axelrod noted -- so if Congress does nothing, everyone's taxes will rise.
