76. A hold was put on re-importing many US-issue guns from the Korean War
Mostly M-1 Garand and M-1 Carbine rifles (both of which are semi-automatic and not "assault weapons" under any definition of the term). Nearly all of the rifles used in Korea were built and used in World War Two as well, making these guns a part of the "Greatest Generation".

Since the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP; formally a government agency) already sells Garands and Carbines from US Army stockpiles to anybody with a clean record and a membersnip in a target-shooting club (or a veteran), blocking the re-importion of these rifles from Korea seems particularly stupid.

It won't do a whit to stop crime while making Democrats look like anti-gun fanatics. It seems to me that moving the rifles into the CMP's armory is perfectly reasonable and rational.

Plus, well, reuse is better than recycling, right? ;-)
