My letter from Michael Steele
Advertisements [?]
I have a hunch that most of us here have filled out our census forms and mailed them in. If not, we have good reasons. If not, we know that a census working will be knocking on our doors soon.

I received the funniest letter yesterday. It is a very official looking document. In fact, is is so "official" that the envelope tells me, "Do not destroy; official document."

Inside is a three page letter from Michael Steele. It exhorts me to fill out the enclosed survey, which looks suspiciously like the survey from the U.S. Census. It says I should return it in the enclosed business reply envelope. It purports to be a 2010 Congressional Census Survey.

The letter tells me that I have been chosen to fill out this survey because of my "high level of political involvement and steadfast commitment to the Republican Party."

WTF? I have been a Democratic precinct committeeman for several years. I was the county party's treasurer for many years. I was the Democratic Party's county chairman for the last two years.

This letter is borderline. It looks official enough to confuse a lot of people. What should I do with it? I doubt that it is illegal. But should I complain to our 16th District Congressman? He is That Stupid Manzullo. He is one of the most partisan and conservative republicans in Congress. He will do nothing.

Should I send it to Bill Foster? He is the Congressman in the adjoining district, the 14th. Many people will remember him as the guy who beat Hastert when Hastert was the Speaker of the House. I have been to many of his events. He is a good guy and he has a good staff. His closest office is only a few miles from me.

Should I mail it to Lisa Madigan's office? She is our Illinois Attorney General. She runs a great office. I have a friend in her office, too, a young attorney.

Should I write a LTTE, and ignite a whole new controversy?

Should I complain to all of them? The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and I am tired of republican assholery.

What do you think?
