If their ignorance isn't willful, you'll have surprised them and pissed them off and made them go do a little research into what they believe. Usually that research has a moderating effect, since after all, "reality has a well-known liberal bias". (This is the path that led me out of anti-choice fundie land.)

If their ignorance IS willful, at least you'll have shut them up and spared yourself the high blood pressure.
