27. It's funny Glenn Beck should mention this...
I've been watching a sci fi show that's fresh out of Japan, rather serious science fiction. You have the seemingly benign, Big Brother government running everything and controlling human growth through eugenics, raising all children with foster parents, disposing the "unsuitable" once they go through adulthood tests... suppressing everyone who is "different".

So how did this come about?

Well, they kinda... ran Earth into overall environmental destruction and humanity emigrated, setting the stage for absolute government control in new planets and solar systems.

So in this case, the fake threat of global warming was not the impetus for the Big Brother nightmare. Failure to address it and the Earth becoming unlivable... that's what set the stage.

Hey, it's still fiction, but I'm just saying, nightmare governments arise when life conditions suck. If global warming really does push mankind to the brink of extinction we shouldn't expect to be ruled by nice people.
