"Reid aides tell me that throughout the summer, he was on literally hundreds of calls with Rahm Emanuel and Max Baucus, discussing ways to push forward past one obstacle after another.

I couldn’t determine what logjams Reid or Rahm broke. But the volume of calls is still interesting, suggesting Reid and Rahm both took the wheel on this far more firmly than previously thought, for better or worse."
