Should a non-racist object to being called a racist?

I have seen people here state that if someone becomes defensive when racism is discussed, it is a sign that this person probably is a racist (especially when someone starts a sentence with "I have alot of friends that are XYZ").

I don't think I generally agree with this statement. In times where being viewed as a racist can lead to job loss, people have a legitimate reason to become defensive, moreso if the accusation is unfounded.

Should a non-pedophile object to being called a pedophile? I think so.
