Mittens would rip the Rethug party into absolute shreds. Millions of fundies would NOT want to give Mormon missionaries one more talking point while trying to tempt away their flocks.

There is a massive distrust of Slick Mitt out there by not only us, but the far wingnut right. They know that either he's lying now, or he was lying when he did what he did to become and remain Massachusetts' governor. They just aren't sure whether it was then, now, or both.
