Has there ever been a Sec of Education with public, grade school teaching experience?

It's a relatively new Cabinet-level post, so there aren't too many former Secretaries. All of the bios I looked at made no mention of teaching, except on the university level.

I guess a follow-up question would be: does it even matter?

It seems to me that the position would greatly benefit from someone with experience "on the front lines."
