if her old man won't work then she's just carrying dead weight and would be further ahead by dropping the anchor. Maybe, she is thinking without having the household to support that she could get some school in and start fresh.

This has little to do with the theme of the post, which is people need a variety of support systems to get their feet underneath them. I agree wholeheartedly on that but I think that much of the woman's trouble is that she has to care for a lazyass full grown man. Hell, saving what he eats, uses in utilities, toiletries, and incidentals would probably be a big help. You're supposed to be a team and pick each other up but one side of the partnership can't be dedicated to leeching.
