111. A lot of medications cause weight gain as well..
anti-psychotics, some anti-depressants, and steroids to name a few.

Or what about age, genetics, hormones, lifestyle, income (poor folks don't shop at Whole Foods Market; many urban areas lack even basic grocery stores' or the stores are selling old/spoiled food - and of course, it's cheaper to buy ramen noodles than anything..)

I've gained 40 pounds in the past year, and have no one to blame but myself. I was on the "nursing school diet": eating on the run (usually out of vending machines or fast food), late night study marathons fueled by gallons of Mt. Dew and munchies, and no time (or energy) to follow a regular exercise regimen.

Did I choose to be fat? No. Did I choose to eat junk, guzzle pop and not exercise, all while being fully aware of the consequences? Yep.

One cannot look at an overweight person and make assumptions - the reason(s) for that person's weight issue is as individual as the person himself.

Jmho.. peace :-)
