Not only are garden-variety conservatives looking at the foreshortened end of their projected dominance of American politics, a significant event by itself, but the racists and end-times whackjobs see their world collapsing about their pointy little heads. This isn't going to be pretty.

I've worked with a lot of folks like this. Hell, I'm going to get to spend Thanksgiving with the ones I call my in-laws. It's the other white guys who, even knowing my stated politics, assume that I'll start agreeing with their racist views once no one else is listening. It's the woman in whose fundie private school I worked in 03-04, and who once told us in a staff meeting that "the Enemy comes into us through our sexual parts". It's the smarmy little fucker who delighted in showing me his empty 9mm clip when I was volunteering as a clinic escort.

Call it growing pains, though. Eight years from now, we won't be the nation we were supposed to be, but we'll be a whole hell of a lot closer.
