1. Agreed.
It was cowardly, what he did to his first wife. Especially after all those years that he was gone, she still hung on to hope that he would be rescued from Vietnam. She still loved and supported him once he came home.

Another thing I think that should be looked at, is his mental health. Being in Vietnam was bad enough, then he was imprisoned and tortured. That has GOT to leave some emotional mark, I would think. I don't know, I wasn't there.
