Harry, come in and sit down. We need to talk. You are the Democratic Leader. You need to know how each of the Senators in our caucus is going to vote before you bring the vote to the floor and then look like a fool when it is defeated.

I don't care if you are from Searchlight, Nevada or the Lighthouse For Homeless Children. You need 51 votes to pass a bill in the Senate - not 60 - as you so naively pretend. You are setting a terrible precedent for the next Congress to cope with. Even if we end up with 59 Senators in a majority, you are willing to play by the Republican playbook - that we need to have 60 votes before we can pass anything. You say it is only "controversial" bills. Well, wake up Harry! Every bill will be controversial with the Republican Party.

You need to get the cell phone numbers of every Democrat in the Senate and they need your number also. You are the leader. When you get 51 votes, bring it to the floor. If you don't have the votes, don't embarrass yourself. Also, find yourself a couple of Republican friends that will vote with you on occasion and then find a good dog.
