We didn't have a dissertation defense, but I can say that for orals, I definitely felt that I was the expert in the room.

Do you have a good relationship with your committee chair? If so, drop by and huddle with him/her. Ask if he/she sees any problems and, if so, how you can fix them before the defense.

I know one member of my committee got into a snit about something she thought I overlooked in the dissertation. My advisor worked out a way I could do detention in her office (I swear, that's what it felt like!). He was the best, and I gave him a $75 bottle of wine when it was all over.
