RICHARD A. STITT
FOR BUZZFLASH

It is worth repeating what the late George Carlin said in a November 2004 interview on the Charlie Rose show. When asked by Rose why he thought the Democrats lost the 2004 election, Carlin responded (paraphrasing), "When the other side has you talking their language then they've got you." That sums up the plight of Democrats' failure to respond forcefully enough to Republican smear propaganda and attack ads.

The Republican apparatchiks have been enormously successful in sucking the mainstream media into their well-oiled propaganda machine and diverting the nation away from the real issues confronting our country. Catch phrases and sound bites like Soccer Moms, NASCAR Dads, Hockey Moms, and Moral Majority which occupied past election cycles have all been coined by Republicans for easy media and public digestion.

<snip>

..... the GOP understands that it makes no difference even if you win an election by a few votes. For them, it is the same as winning by a landslide. Just ask Karl Rove. We saw quickly once George W. Bush was installed to the White House via a 5-4 judicial fiat, how he ruled as if he had an overwhelming mandate from the people.
President Barack Obama, though attempting bipartisanship early in the first few months of his administration, belatedly learned that "No cooperation" (Sen. John McCain's words) means precisely no cooperation. If the loser Republicans don't want to play ball and contribute something constructive to the problems their party created then President Obama has no other choice but to move on without them.

<snip>

The only way to confront this acidic, hostile, pugnacious Republican Party and their Wall Street patrons who want to return to the heydays of Bush-Cheney wars and economic tyranny over the American people is to fight fire with fire and respond by smacking down each and every smear by shallow, inane people like the narcissistic Fox News commentator, Sarah "How's that hopey-changey thing workin' out for ya?" Palin, the "Hell no you can't!" tirades by the House Minority leader, John Boehner, and the AR-15 toting, violence-prone Tea Partiers.

As long as Republicans hog the stage and media arena with their sound-bites Democrats will experience another Scott Brown butt-kicking in November. It isn't too late to fight back,  but the Dems must do so with all the hellfire and brimstone fury they can muster if they are to beat back the Republican slime machine -- and get them on the defensive in terms of the language of the debate.
