26. I have a copy of that book; it's a treasured part of my library.
I give the author all the credit in the world for doing the incredible amount of work it must have taken in the '80s, using '80s technology, to gather all the the news and video clips he did for every day of the Reagan presidency to compile a portrait of a guy who was completely out of touch. Must have been much harder in the days of no Web, but he did it.

And it saddens me to think that he did it all because he was terrified of--and wanted to make sure this country never made the mistake of--electing a mediocre, mentally out-of-it wealthy white guy to the highest office in the land ever again. Yep, his nightmare was that if we allowed the truth about Reagan to be forgotten, we just might elect someone as unfit for the job as...Dan Quayle.

And the sad part of it all is, we did (well, not really, but...). Only it wasn't Dan Quayle, is all.
