Maybe. If Gore had picked Edwards instead of Lieberman he might have come on stronger in the South...at that time. Lieberman didn't help Gore and some of us now think he worked behind the scenes against him, particularly during the Florida recount.

Edwards problem is that many of us think he was running for President from the time he was elected Senator from NC. He tended to vote very DLC and wasn't responsive to his constituents who worked hard for him. (at least the "little folks" who worked hard for him.) His obstinance about Iraq was a huge disappointment to those of us who begged him not to vote for the Iraq War resolution and his treatment of us after no WMD were found was not good either. He shouldn't have given up his seat to allow Erskine Bowles to run and lose a second time, thereby setting NC up for two hard core Repug Senators, Dole and Burr (a DeLay type). Lieberman didn't give up his seat when he ran. And, he didn't help us here with Verified Paper Ballot Voting issues here in NC when we were desperate for some backing.

The one thing I do like about him is his stand on abolishing pharmaceutical advertisements on TV. And, his "two Americas" is a basis for some populist ideas that some of us support. I've always seen him as a total opportunist in spite of how well liked he is here by many DU'ers, but perhaps his loss of the Vice Presidency, losing his NC seat to a Right Wing Repug has allowed some "humility" to creep in and he's learned to stand taller. I think his wife "gets it" and she
is his biggist asset.

But, I don't know if Gore and Edwards even get along...or have the same philosophy. Some have said Edwards was Gore's first pick but others convinced him to chose Lieberman.

Maybe....
