Once influential, widely respected even among those that didn't agree with him 100% of the time...

Then in order to feed his own ego he runs for President, helping elect George Bush, and those that respected him now consider him a Bush enabler...

He is now completely irrelevent to any important issue, and his efforts at consumer protection fall on deaf ears once willing to listen to what he had to say...
