When he was convicted he got an immediate appeal. This is what was turned down and thus the hanging is on.

The deal here is many are so angry at the boooosh regime that they even give this butcher a pass. Had this been a different time, he would have just been taken out back and shot...quick, easy "justice".

I don't think there are any international laws when it comes to an internal matter. Each country decides justice and codifies it to their own meaning...why some Arabic countries still have stoning and cutting off hands on the books. There's no international agreement that requires a country to subscribe to a specific legal system or to make that system accountable.

I'd have prefered if Saddam had been tried and convicted in the Hague...and used as an example of how international law should work. There was plenty of dirt on Hussein to convict him...obviously the boooosh regime had something to hide and wanted it kept as a "local" matter.
