There he sat today, in front of the Senate Armed Services Committee. The top US military officer in Iraq, Gen. John Abizaid, tried his damndest to convince both Republican and Democratic Senators that the miserable, immoral, unnecessary war George W. Bush forced on the world is proceeding as expected and, no, there is no need for more US troops, thank you. No problem, Senators, Gen. Abizaid insisted. “When I come to Washington I hear negativity I don’t hear in Iraq,” he declared.

Under further questioning, Abizaid admitted, okay, maybe a few thousand more soldiers and Marines, but only on a temporary basis. You know, only until the Iraqi “military” can take over and lead that sad, destroyed nation on to, um, democracy. Yeah, democracy. Even though Bush has, with his murderous war, created an Islamic Republic where a thoroughly secularized state used to exist – albeit one run by a dictator supported and blessed for years by US foreign policy thugs.

So, there he sat (for the first time since his lying, incompetent boss Donald Rumsfeld had been kicked to the curb the way former Bush enablers are always kicked to the curb when a sacrifice is needed) testifying that more dead US sons and daughters, husbands and wives, fathers and mothers are needed before the Bush Crime Family can declare victory.
