I honestly believe that Cheney is a "true believer" that the devil's bargains made by the Administrations he's worked for have "kept America safe," and I believe that he lacks the capacity to examine whether we'd be safer (and on honorably good terms with more of the world), had we pursued other foreign policies instead.

But he's extremely shrewd.

By now, Cheney is pretty much pathological in his beliefs. I can almost see them leading him away, screaming to the American people, "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!"
