Dick shot a dick. Cheney gets Blamey. Ask dick if he like quail. You know the humorous lines that are going around right now about our infamous Vice president Dick Cheney. We all know to avoid Dick if we are his friend, unless of course you want to be shot in the face. But really, do we really care about that, or is it his family that we are interested in.

We all know Cheney has a queer daughter. We know her name is Mary. We know she worked for a beer company trying to bring in more queer customers. We know Mommy and Daddy do not like to talk much about her as was evident in the VP debates. We also know he used his family as slave labor for his re-election campaign. And of course, he shot his friend in the face and said friend suffered a heart attack while in the hospital recovering.

Then there is Mrs. Cheney. Who is she? Why don’t we see as much of her as we see Laura? Are there skeletons in the closet that the Cheney family doesn’t want coming out? Maybe it is because she wrote a wonderful book called SISTERS which contains thinks like lesbians, sex, prostitutes, rape, and is all about WOMEN! There are even talks that Mrs. Cheney is actually a Feminist! Scandalous!

Nevertheless, do not let the fact that she is THE Mrs. Cheney deter you from reading the book. “Sisters” was written in 1981, long before Dick became the second-in-command. If you can find it, it is quite good. Currently selling used on Amazon.com for around 200 dollars, it is sure to be a hard find. There were rumors that there was going to be a second printing, but Mrs. Cheney quashed that. Maybe the skeletons do not want to come out and play while she is Mrs. Conservative-America-Morality deficient-Pro-War-Anti-Liberal Cheney. We shall see, and I encourage you to seek out a copy and read.

The story is about one Sophie Dymond (cute gay name eh) who is a Bi woman. She loves sex, which is obvious in the story with her many trysts with men and WOMEN! She even lacks some moral constitution and has sex with her DEAD sister’s former man!

Just look at a small selection (which was pointed out by the former Gay Lesbian Editor Marcia):

The women who embraced in the wagon were Adam and Eve crossing a dark cathedral stage -- no, Eve and Eve, loving one another as they would not be able to once they ate of the fruit and knew themselves as they truly were. She felt curiously moved, curiously envious of them. She had never to this moment thought Eden a particularly attractive paradise, based as it was on naiveté, but she saw that the women in the cart had a passionate, loving intimacy forever closed to her. How strong it made them. What comfort it gave.

In addition, the Conservative Right might not like how some things are portrayed in the story like the leaving of men. Heaven forbid a woman decides that she wants to be with another woman and forsake men for a while. Did they ever consider that a woman might be able to take better care of her than a man did or would? Obviously not! What I like is the details in which Mrs. Cheney portrays life and love.


Let us go away together, away from the anger and imperatives of men. We shall find ourselves a secluded bower where they dare not venture. There will be only the two of us, and we shall linger through long afternoons of sweet retirement. In the evenings, I shall read to you while you work your cross-stitch in the firelight. And then we shall go to bed, our bed, my dearest girl.

So go out there and find yourself a copy. In the time of Bush being so low... let us celebrate that sometimes skeletons in the closet are a good find. In the case of SISTERS this is totally true! Give the Right something to think about now!
