this is not a "threat" condition this is a "reality condition"

Cut and paste from another of my replies below, but worth repeating:

The German people likely thought, in large part, that those nasty laws didn't apply to THEM. This is my favorite (and only) objection I've heard to the information and logic of the piece above, that it only applies to noncitizens, as if that makes prison without charge or trial and torture all OK, particularly when that applies to people I know, like my wife for example. Even if that were correct, it's not a difference that makes a difference morally or in terms of human rights. It implies that Germany's holocaust against Jews and a few other small minorities is morally less reprehensible than the EQUAL PROTECTION OF ALL LAWS TO ALL GROUPS. That's an absurd position.
