Checking into rehab prevents the suspect from being questioned, and also begins to create a cover story for why the suspect wasn't really responsible for his own actions. It also "proves" that the suspect is sorry and is seeking help.
Rehab units are full of Republicans. Repubs work rehab units into their vacation cycles.
What interested me was that he claimed he was an alcoholic and needed treatment, and yet many of his closest friends and colleagues said they never knew he was a drinker.
