I'm generally sceptical about this - with the American defecit as high as it is, I don't think that tax cuts, even for the poor, should be on the agenda.

I also think that one section of the populace that most clearly *doesn't* deserve tax breaks is those who cheat on their taxes, which this in essence would be. Checking that people aren't doing so brings in far more revenue than it costs, and as such is clearly a good idea, I think; not doing so would lead to even more tax evasion. The US should have more tax collectors, not fewer.

Saying "we trust all of you" to a group of people some of whom are not trustworthy, is silly, I think.
