Castro's Daughter Signs With CNN

Alina Fernandez to Provide Analysis, Commentary
By Michele Greppi

CNN has hired ailing Cuban dictator Fidel Castro's illegitimate daughter, Alina Fernandez, as a Miami-based contributor of analysis and commentary.

Ms. Fernandez, who was born in 1956, before her father's revolution, is critical of President Castro and fled Cuba with her daughter in 1993. She does a radio show, "Simplemente Alina," focused on Cuban and Cuban American issues in Miami. She also wrote a book, "Castro's Daughter: An Exile's Memoir of Cuba," in which she laid out vivid memories such as seeing Mickey Mouse replaced on Cuban TV by coverage of executions ordered by her father.

Ms. Fernandez said she signed on with CNN because "at this critical point in history, as a Cuban, it's important for me to draw the world's attention to the situation inside Cuba as we reflect on its future. CNN is a global network, which can reach the largest population available."
