69. Freepers apparently can't read
http://home.hiwaay.net/~pspoole/echelon.html

Echelon captures "...virtually every phone call, fax, email and telex message sent anywhere in the world." With a US/UK/Australia/Canada/NZ treaty for shared intelligence amongst the English speaking countries intel agencies, 'over the transom' shared information is easily acquired. (Remember when Dodi Fayed's dad asked for CIA info re the Lady Di car wreck ? Small example.)

Phone calls are triangulated off of W. Coast sites (Yakima WA) and E. Coast sites (Sugar Grove W.VA.)

""These listening stations are dispersed throughout the world, in such places as Yakima (Washington State, USA), Sugar Grove (West Virginia, USA), Menwith Hill (England), Hong Kong, Guam, Misawa Air Base (Japan), and Sabana Seca (Puerto Rico); they allow the English-speaking countries (the USA, mostly) to eavesdrop upon what the rest of the world is saying in their faxes, telexes and international telephone calls.""

Domestic calls in the US ARE listened to, as were the calls of Martin Luther King Jr, who was spied upon more by the military in the US than the FBI. Sad but true.
