I am an immigrant and I have no objection to my being referred as an 'alien' because that is the legal term for a person who is not a citizen of a particular country. Since I entered the U.S. legally, the correct term would be 'legal alien.' Of course, now I'm a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. (with 'green card'). As an immigration professional, thus, I have no problem with classifying anyone, regardless of nationality or color of their skin, who enters the U.S. unlawfully (which means without inspection by an immigration official at a port of entry) as an 'illegal alien.' There are illegal aliens from Canada, China (brought over in containers), etc., but most, due to geography, are from Latin America.
