truth be told, the dems better get a plan for withdrawal in iraq pronto...because the GOP is good at painting the war on terror as their thing, but it just so happens that it ain't goin' so hot on their watch.

I don't think America has awakened to the fact that the current war on terror was brought on in part by the policies of this admin. I guess I am saying that blame isn't enough, and it's what the repugs'll do right back at the dems anyway. I think that most of those low poll numbers MIGHT just include people who think Bush is OK, but uh just not right at the moment. You watch, if Shrub does something ingenious because he was advised by someone without an agenda for a change, his polls will creep back up. Keep in mind that JK won the debates in 2004, and we even had the press calling george's competency into question (remember the listening device flap during the debate?)AND IT DIDN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Of course, I hope I am far off the mark!

...I know it's a different climate now, but I am of the opinion that it's only the indies/undecideds, and not the die hard bushbots, that are fueling these low approval poll swells...and it's ALWAYS been the indies/middle/undecided demographic that actualy decide who is elected, ONLY BECAUSE THERE AREN'T ENOUGH FOR A MAJORITY ON EITHER EXTREME SIDE OF THE IDEALOGICAL FENCE TO GUARANTEE A WIN FOR EITHER PARTY. I don't know about now, but that damned fear strategy sure seemed to work in 2004 (that and a few well placed anti gay marriage amendments).

This should be NO news here....the dems need a clear and concise message. What are we for, what are we against? This must happen pronto.

Anyone notice how immigration suddenly popped up as the new topic of the midterm campaigns? How quickly did the war on terror and the * admin's handling thereof became yesterday's news. Look how even * is playing catchup in the wake of the L.A. protests, and this only because he thinks he sees a willing demo for the GOP. Of course, the latinos protesting don't love George right now...but what happens when those hot button wedge issues come back right at the same time a very religious new blok is ripe for exploitation? It's always the same old issues ("gay abortionists are trying to take the Christian flag out of America's schools")that drive the middle to get off their backsides and vote for the GOP. Have you noticed historically that the dems come in afteer a spate of republican rule on the "you fucked up you trusted them" ticket?

Why isn't someone willing to tackle the issues where they will hit us the worst, especially while The debacle known as the Iraq war is writing itself. You'd think that someone would have figured out that Bush's base will vote no matter what (imagine if they just stayed at home, competent that someone else will vote their way and upset the election in their favor...AGAIN) SO why isn't anyone making a concerted effort to reach the undecideds? Because deep down, the truth is ugly.

we live in a country where gay marriage, for example, doesn't really bother most average americans....until election time.
