Like banning abortion. Sure, they'll talk the talk, because it always gets them votes.

But what if the Repukes finally achieve those goals? Those people are heavy single-issue voters. Their single issue will be gone - and with it, potentially the reason they go out to the polls and vote Repuke.

I think the Repuke party just strings most of its single-issue groups along like that, so they can be sure to have that voting bloc.
