My first poetry post :)
Advertisements [?]
About 6 years ago my (ex) wife left with our 6 month old child. She was the only woman I ever loved and I went through 3 years of depression. One late night, while I was going through the anger phase of recovery, I wrote this:

It swallows its prey whole
it has no need to chew
the acids in its saliva do the work
hours that remain are but a few

the shell is spit out
the body appears whole
the man has been gutted
he's just trying to save his soul

its excruciatingly long
the minutes have turned to days
time has lost its purpose
his thoughts turn into haze

does the creature live inside him
or is it his mind that is infected
he kicks his legs in pain
and the rage of being rejected

with the patience of a creature
that need not eat or breathe
her hunger only rises
when the last meal is laid to sleep

the instinct that guides her
is too powerful for its victims
no weapon or force is used
only the power of his own affection

he lays himself to rest
night has lost its meaning
he only seeks relief from the pain
his heart and soul are feeling

it is busy this rainy night
morning comes slowly and sexily
the time has come again
the light now shines brightly

it is not a game to win or lose
it is a struggle to regain control
the comfort the love the security
of owning one's own soul

the battle sheds no blood
there are no cuts to heal
it could have been a dream
but the memories are too real

don't follow the others
they have been here too long
they have forgotten their plight
they still listen to her song

you do not need a knife
to cut the rope that binds
walk the unbeaten path
a pure light ye shall find

the thing still lives inside you
perhaps it will never die
perhaps you will feed it forever
perhaps it will leave tonight
