What a spectacular fall day to go roaming around Boston. We have not yet had a killing frost so the flower planters (boxes) on Beacon Hill and the lovely Victorian layout of the Public Gardens were just ideal for a nice walk. Another week and the place will look much different. (On the down side, that cold I was getting is in fuller bloom as well. Much chicken soup will be needed for this week to get ready for Friday.)
I met Europegirl at her hotel and then we drove to a T stop and then took public transportation and commenced to see what we could see in about 3 hours in Boston. We saw a lot of wicked old stuff, (Colonial era buildings) and then merely old stuff (like the elegant townhouses in the pic posted up thread.) I think the star of the day was the incredible weather, it was just perfect for a stroll.
BTW, my skills as tour guide improved. We went to Beacon Hill because we only had about 3 hours total in town so we looped from the T stop, past the Commons, up Beacon Hill and then meandered among the lovely setting there. Somedays it's hard to believe that you're in a major American city when you are on the Hill. It was so quiet yesterday. Amazing to think that just two blocks from major intersections and all that traffic is such a lovely location. Pumpkins, lovely brick townhouses with their iron balconies, flower boxes still in bloom and great company to see it all in, what more could you ask for on a fall afternoon? I regret we weren't able to stroll around the North End, but again, we only had 3 hours. (We passed a wedding at St. Pauls Chapel going up Beacon Hill and two wedding parties getting pictures taken at Public Gardens. It really was a lovely take.)
Ahm, yup, a certain Senator's house is in that pic, under a flag. But we didn't really set out to see that house, we set out to see what parts of Boston, in terms of architecture and design, are just pleasing. We all decided that parts of Boston are like a mini-London in terms of it's neighborhoods. BTW, across the street from where this pic was taken, we saw several girls in riding gear on medium size ponies. Right there, in the city, on a lovely Sat afternoon. 'twas nice.
Oh, we also saw Faneuil Hall. Cuz, we have to see Faneuil Hall. It's become rather famous in this group of late. What a great time!
