There is always a shift in consciousness with a recession/depression. Sans the economic difficulties, if people were still flying high, flipping houses, getting outrageous loans and outrageous salaries, they would have been more in synch with most Americans.

They are both very shallow people, and their energy fits with others more readily during an unsustainable economic boom period. Even people that are going to vote for them generally don't like them that much now.

I can tell now that there is going to be a lot of finger pointing for all this mess, as well as prosecutions. And people will feel grateful just to have a job. They seem more of a mirror for 2005 than 2008--which is why they aren't polling that well.
