4. Used it, didn't like it ...

I subscribed to a trial offer and ended the subscription once that was over. It didn't impress me. The quality was fine, I suppose, and the price for nationawide LD was right, but the service overall was certainly no better than a standard phone line, which is what some of the ads try to imply.

The main reason I didn't keep it was because it didn't make me want to give up my standard phone service, primarily due to the outage issues. I have an old phone that requires no external power source for a reason. When the power goes out, as it often does in Oklahoma during storm season, I want to be able to use the phone. With broadband service, this is not possible.

The company I tried would route a 9-11 call to a local operator, but that operator could not pinpoint my location from the call. This was also an issue.

Additionally, I get my video, data, and phone service through one company. I did the math on this, and evern with unlimited LD through my current provider, I saved no money going with a broadband company.
