It's a public-participation program to help classify galaxies in sky surveys taken by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey in New Mexico. If you like astronomy and looking at galaxies while helping scientists with their research, it is tremendous fun! Hubble and other space telescopes are absolutely incredible, but there are also ground-based astronomy programs doing pretty awesome work. Both types of observatories do different kinds of science and are complementary.
