Just heard Diane Ravitch. Wow.

A few highlights:

Diane gave a tribute to Arne Duncan for bringing us together.

She said she's taken hits but teachers have taken worse hits than she has.

NCLB is the very worst piece of legislation ever passed. The C stands for 'Consultant'.

We need to stop talking about how good our schools used to be. On the first international assessment back in the 1950s, the US came in 12th out of 12. We've NEVER been #1 but our scores have increased in the last 50 years. So our schools are not failing, they are actually improving.

The highlight of her speech was when she mentioned the t-shirt I am wearing that says UNION THUG. I had met her in the hall as she walked in and she liked the shirt.

More later.
